Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Nov 19, 2008 8:43 pm Hello everyone
does anybody have any idea of how much price differences between laminex Diamond gloss and the quantum stone, and the diamond gloss and normal laminex natural finish? we are deciding the bathroom/ensuite benchtops, and pantry, landry, need to choose between those depending on the how expensive it can get. could anybody please offer some insight on this? many thanks in advance nh Re: Laminex or stone price differences 2Nov 19, 2008 9:09 pm Hi nh,
We got our own stone mason in to do the kitcfhen stone tops - for 40mm including waterfall edges it cost us $4400 plus GST. I am still not sure how much we are getting back for the laminate though. I had my stone mason quote ont he bathrooms, it would have been an extra $1000 to do them both ( I think this was jsut 20mm though), so we didn't get them in there With the laminex, we chose a diamond gloss one for the pantry and were told it wasn't any extra. I think it would vary from builder to builder and kitchen company to kitchen company though, so get a few quotes if you are doing it yourself. Re: Laminex or stone price differences 3Nov 19, 2008 9:17 pm Hi, donuts
thanks you heaps for replying i will get teh kitchen in quartz stone (as it is offered in the promo and we'll just pay extra to upgrade to 40mm) but for pantry benchtop, all bathrooms/ensuites, laundry, i am thinking if it is a huge price difference between laminate and stone, i would choose Laminex to all these area benches. then, it comes dimond gloss finish or natural finish, i think the diamond gloss looks like a stone and easy to clean, i will choose diamond gloss finish - if it is much cheaper than quarts stone and a little higher than laminex natural finish. so you didn't get charged for extra to have a diamond gloss finish? how good is that. i wil be happy nh Re: Laminex or stone price differences 4Nov 19, 2008 9:38 pm nh, who are you building with again? If you're doing it through a volume builder the prices might be lots different to mine - sometimes it seems my builder does things a bit differently to others on the forum! But I think the upgrading to stone benchtops int he bath might be cheaper for you - I can't remember who it was (maybe Rachelle?) who said to upgrade to stone in all her bathrooms cost something like $400 - 600?? Don't quote me on that! But as I said it can vary a lot!
Also you might find your builder DOES charge extra for diamond gloss - I always thought it cost more - but when I asked how much extra I was told nothing, so I picked it! What colour are you thinking there? Re: Laminex or stone price differences 5Nov 19, 2008 9:48 pm Hi, donuts
i am building with PD, and choosing Quantum Ice for kitchen benchtop, and laminex polar white for cupboards doors (i might change to just White instead of polar white, as White a little bit warmer than Polar white, but it seems Polar white matches Icen Benchtop nicely. (isn't that a mouthful already?!) yeah, if the pricce difference is too much, i will go for laminex for the rest wet area, i am thinking on white or polar white cupboards, and pure mineralstone diamond gloss for benchtop. how do u think? nh Re: Laminex or stone price differences 6Nov 19, 2008 9:50 pm Definitely do the upgrade to the thicker edge in your kitchen, it looks so much nicer.
I never asked about stone for the bathrooms....probably should have, but we'd already upgraded and added so many things, and the costs were mounting. I think I was too scared to even contemplate it. Re: Laminex or stone price differences 7Nov 19, 2008 9:52 pm Hi nh, Pure Mineralstone is the diamond gloss one we picked, we have it with Polar White laminex in the pantry, it looks great IMO! there are pics somewhere on my house of donuts thread if you want to see what it looks like. Re: Laminex or stone price differences 8Nov 19, 2008 9:55 pm kek, know what u mean, that's why i am trying to be realistic now, yeah, laminex is pretty good, if the gloss one has a squareformed edge or postformed edge, i will be happy, or even natural finish ones so long as teh edge okay.
gal, be realistic, this is what i keep telling myself nh Re: Laminex or stone price differences 9Nov 19, 2008 9:58 pm If the budget was tight, I personally would leave the kitchen as 20mm and pay to have it in the bathrooms. I think the 20mm looks stunning in the kitchen, really light and floating. Very sleek look.
Having stone everywhere, kitchen, bathrooms, pantry, laundry was one of my biggest priorities. The only reason I'm having 40mm in my kitchen is because my builder does it as standard. Otherwise I'd go 20mm because I prefer the sleek look it gives. From memory when I was with M3tricon it was about $600 per metre to go to stone, My current builder is much cheaper. It's costing $1500 to go for stone in both bathrooms and the laundry..... I love my new builder! Jo I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Laminex or stone price differences 11Nov 19, 2008 10:18 pm my builder didn't charge extra for diamond gloss.. I'm having pure mineralstone in the kitchen, bathroom and laundary. Catalana Marble for the ensuite. All doors will be stipple seal except overheads in kitchen which will be white.
We are having d mould for benchtops which is small 90 degree rolls.. So it will still look fairly square. Re: Laminex or stone price differences 12Nov 20, 2008 8:43 am Do they make a solid 40mm?
I thought it was all just a 2 x 20mm stuck together for the edges (hence it's still only 20mm in the middle of the benchtop. That's how mine was done anyway. Re: Laminex or stone price differences 14Jan 18, 2009 8:05 pm Anyone upgraded to Catagory 2 colours with Porter Davis?
Emma loves the Gobi Black colour and it will go well with our door colours (Polar White) plus I got my garage extension so it is only fair. We are just busy beavers budgeting of finances, also does anyone know the price to go from 20mm to 40mm? *edit* Also if anyone is interested in our splashback colour it is Dulux Zuni which is an amazing colour and will not be effected by the standard 'green' tinge that a glass splashback exhibits. Upgrading to 40mm edges for kitchen benches with PD only cost us $810 - but that was back in Oct 07 when we signed our contract, so it may well be more now. Thanks Kek - slightly less than we were thinking ( ~ $1k) best thing I have found is that it best to assume everything in the house will cost boat loads because it feels so much better when it is less! Re: Laminex or stone price differences 18Jan 18, 2009 8:37 pm kek Good strategy! Even our "small" deck that my husband is building at the moment gets more and more expensive....and he wants to go back to Bunnings AGAIN tomorrow. Ugh At least it will look nice I live at home with my parents right now - i'm terrified of the prospect of no longer having access to my dads tools and haivng to go out and purchase my own Re: Laminex or stone price differences 19Jan 18, 2009 8:39 pm Zerosignal,
Our 40mm Stone benchtop upgrade only cost $519...in October '08. Category 1 colour though, but I do think the Gobi Black will look terrific with the Polar White cupboards and that splashback.
