I think I'll be doing a lot of mopping over the next few days. Re: House of horrors - Kek's Bridgeport 35 - ALL MOVED IN! 128Dec 12, 2008 10:25 pm Mmm, I don't think the tank was an estate covenant - hard to remember now. But it was part of meeting the 5-star rating requirements, although there were alternatives.
We got it as part of the sales promotion when we signed up with PD last year in June. Unfortunately, because our block was a bit tight for such a big house, we had to upgrade to a slimline and relocate it so it didn't protrude into the sewer easement. That cost us a bit extra, but we actually got a bigger tank because of it, so not so bad. PD did the installation, pump, plumbing, the works. It's connected to the toilets, so we're hoping to save some $ and also do our little bit by not flushing good drinking water - at least not all the time. LOL - my husband keeps going out and knocking on the side of it to check the level..... Re: House of horrors - Kek's Bridgeport 35 - ALL MOVED IN! 129Dec 15, 2008 10:22 pm So much for the water tank....turns out the pump is faulty and it tripped the circuit breaker on Friday night, so we had no power in half the house when I got up Saturday morning. It took AGES to figure out what was causing it - we'd turned off every appliance in the place, my husband had crawled around up in the roof looking for leaks that might have short-circuited some wiring, and then finally he thought about the heating, cooling, HWS and pump for the tank....
Seems nothing is destgined to go smoothly with this place. The faulty stove burner is fixed now though, and the painter called in to say he'll finally be coming on Friday. Someone is supposed to be here in the morning to fix the pump, and our SS is coming to take care of another small job. It's all getting sorted out, bit by bit. Re: House of horrors - Kek's Bridgeport 35 - ALL MOVED IN! 131Dec 16, 2008 10:33 am kek Yippee!! We're in!! We still have a lot of stuff to move tomorrow, but with a hand from my mother, two sisters and brothers-in-law, plus eldest son and his mate, it shouldn't be too hard. Bummer about the pouring rain all day. We got WET. Fences are up, side gate is on, and all is well. Awesome news--I hope all your other issues are rectified in short order. And that the rain didn't lead to mud being tracked into the house! --Mike Everything I know, I learned from SBS. Difficult choice. I reckon it is: clean the mud up and it's gone. Clean the dust up and it's back the next morning! Everything I know, I learned from SBS. LATEST: Frame Complete http://metricon-mercer.livejournal.com Re: House of horrors - Kek's Bridgeport 35 - ALL MOVED IN! 134Dec 16, 2008 2:22 pm I agree. The rain has kept the dust down for a few days. There's always a bonus.
The tank still isn't working though. Seems it's not an electrical problem, but a plumbing one. Re: House of horrors - Kek's Bridgeport 35 - ALL MOVED IN! 135Dec 16, 2008 2:29 pm Oh joy of joys.
I reckon you could write a book by now. Throw in a few funny stories from other contributors and you'd have something ready to print by next Christmas. Everything I know, I learned from SBS. LATEST: Frame Complete http://metricon-mercer.livejournal.com Re: House of horrors - Kek's Bridgeport 35 - ALL MOVED IN! 136Dec 18, 2008 8:22 pm A book? Not sure anybody would want to read it....
So we have our alarm system all installed and operational, but haven't got much further with unpacking since the weekend (darn work - gets in the way of my REAL life! ). Our water tank is completely chockers, but useless since the pump STILL isn't working. And there's about zero chance of a plumber looking at it before Christmas. The painter is supposed to come tomorrow, but I haven't heard from him and I'm not about to move furniture if he isn't going to show up. *sigh* On the bright side, we got a letter from the managing agent of our rental place and we'll be getting the entire bond back. I should think so - My mother and I spent HOURS making that place sparkle! Luckily, my Mum does commercial cleaning, so she knows her stuff.
Cloudy ammonia and a garbage bag, left overnight, will restore oven racks to as-new shininess. A scraper blade gets the oven glass clean (after applying oven cleaner and leaving for the required time). And Jif gets just about any marks off walls. A good quality squeegee works better on shower screens and mirrors than any chemicals. I'm more of a hide-the-mess-in-wardrobes kind of person. Re: House of horrors - Kek's Bridgeport 35 - ALL MOVED IN! 140Dec 19, 2008 11:04 am Nah, all the water pipes are in the roof and walls, only the drains are under the slab - and I think it's the plumbing to the pump itself that's ******* anyway, so that's outside.
Our faulty floodlight got fixed this morning, so that's one more thing ticked off. No sign of the painter though....I really wanted my front door repainted, pronto. After all, it's the first thing you see and a big scratch plus render splashes don't exactly give a great first impression. Since all the tradies finish up today for Christmas, it's unlikely anything else will get done before mid-to-late January. Our outstanding list: Painting: front door, a few touch ups, some skirting in the ensuite that wasn't given a top coat, and some patching up of small dings in the walls (thanks to other trades doing their various jobs just prior to handover none too carefully). Pump to rainwater tank. Replacement of colorbond fascia at rear of house. This was actually done early this week, but it's still not good enough, after (I think) four attempts, and our SS agrees they have to re-do it. Again. Stained pantry shelves. Looks like I'm fixing this one myself. Should be easy to take care of with a bit of Marbletrend bathroom polish. Bathroom vanity cabinet doors not closing properly. Bath Magic are supposed to be doing this one. Haven't heard from them. Cracked tile in bathroom. Handles and locks on bifolds were replaced, but they haven't been keyed alike to our other locks, as promised.... I think that's about it. There are a few other minor things we've come across since moving in, but they can wait till the 3-month maintenance check. I've spent the morning unpacking more boxes, and then packing up a heap of stuff to donate to Diabetes Australia. They're coming to pick it all up on Tuesday. I'm down to the rumpus room, a few boxes in the lounge, and the garage to sort out now. Right now, I'm going out to lunch, so it'll have to wait....
