Back to topic: For us, the thing most annoying was we didn't get a concertina-type cupboard door in the inside corner of our island bench. Shoulda asked for one. Re: Plans - anything you wish you had / had not included? 23Nov 16, 2008 9:31 pm Thanks for that ,donuts.
In SA tiled bases are standard - well, at least they were with our builder, no-one mentioned any alternative option - and all shower bases I have seen, new and old houses, have tiled bases. Obviously this is one of those things which vary between states. Re: Plans - anything you wish you had / had not included? 24Nov 16, 2008 9:54 pm A few little things
Power point on the island bench or the side. If you are only having bayonet fittings for your lights and you are intending on changing them to downlights later get them to be installed away from roof timbers and get them locatedexactly where you might be placing a downlight so you don't have to patch later. Grano in the porch and alfresco for future tiling rather than paving.(If thats something you would like) If you are palnning on having a waterfeature or anything that needs power outside try and get a switch running form your alfresco or inside your house. That way you don't have to go out in the dark for pool lights or water feature lights and try and turn them on out there. Does that make sense? Water provision behind your fridge recess is you have a water or ice front fridge. Gas point for your BBQ and power point and TV aerial if you are that way inclined from your Alfresco. Is that enough I am sure I will think of more, some of these may not be at all necessary. Less of an issue nowadays with cordless phones and wireless computing. Power to a pergola ceiling fan. Lighting and power-points in your ceiling space. Forgetting to put something into an internal or external wall is more troublesome later than running through ceilings and eaves. Any more? Re: Plans - anything you wish you had / had not included? 34Nov 17, 2008 7:02 am donuts Helyn donuts Tiled shower bases. donuts, was this not standard? If not, what is on the base? Hi Helyn, no the standard was plain white shower bases - they may be called Polymarble? not sure. they look like this (only a little cleaner by the time we get in there I hope). I think they are easier to clean than tiles which will be a plus! Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ I agree donuts ! I've had both over the years - tiled hob & synthetic hob. The synthetic shower base is by far the easiest to keep clean & IMHO looks far nicer. Re: Plans - anything you wish you had / had not included? 35Nov 17, 2008 7:09 am When we had the inspector come through our place recently he asked if I knew where the heating/cooling unit was going in the roof plan, when he saw it he made the off hand comment, 'ahh yup right down this end of the house above the bedrooms, so you can hear it when your going to sleep'. I immediatly thought 'damn it'! Maybe see where yours is and work out if theres a better place in the ceiling for it to go.
