Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Nov 14, 2008 12:07 pm Hi all,
We are getting higher ceilings on our place in Marriott Waters and were quoted close to $7k for the 2590mm ceiling heights, which seems a little excessive. Can anyone tell us what costs they have encounted when doing the raised ceilings or give us any other options? Cheers, Ian & Courts PS sorry to the guys on the Marriott Waters online forum who have already read this! I thought I'd just try a wider audience!! ICK So glad the building is over, never again. Loooove our house, but still not quite sure it was worth all of the stress they put us through! Re: Cost of higher ceilings 2Nov 14, 2008 12:20 pm I have been quoted $4800 for ground floor and $4125 for first floor for a ceiling height increase to 2700mm from 2440 for 37square house. I thought this was quite reasonable though we have only elected to have the lower floor increased so we can afford the $1200 to have the door heights increased as well.
What size is your house? Re: Cost of higher ceilings 6Nov 14, 2008 12:41 pm Thanks for the quick replies, keep em comin!
Our house is single storey, just over 30 squares URL. It doesn't sound right does it? Especially considering that its only for 2590mm, not like its 9 foot ceilings or anything extreme. ICK So glad the building is over, never again. Loooove our house, but still not quite sure it was worth all of the stress they put us through! Re: Cost of higher ceilings 7Nov 14, 2008 12:48 pm The extras costs incurred for raising ceiling height are:
# Longer studs # Wider plaster sheets # Few extra courses of bricks # Labour Changing from 2590 to 2700 does not add any extra costs on the studs because they would already be 2.7 so it would only cost for plaster, bricks and labour. A 2700mm ceiling height should actually be 2730mm to make it easier for the plaster sheets to work. Re: Cost of higher ceilings 9Nov 14, 2008 1:22 pm our house came with 10ft ceilings as standard..
but a friend of mine who is building with H3nely got quoted aprox $8000 to increase their ceiling height to 2700mm don't just do something, sit there. Re: Cost of higher ceilings 10Nov 14, 2008 1:25 pm Search the forum, there is another thread regarding roof pitch and ceiling height pricing (I say this because I can't remember how much ours cost, but know it is in the other thread!).
$7K sounds a bit stiff for 2590mm. Edit: Just checked again (amazing how small things bug you!) - $5150 for ceilings raised to 2700mm with brick infill over windows, 32sq house. Re: Cost of higher ceilings 12Nov 14, 2008 1:48 pm We are building with Statesman and for our house, which is smaller at just over 19 squares, it is an extra $4,500 to go from 2400 to 2700 ceilings!
Money well spent we think, re-sale value and appeal are the two main reasons we upgraded! As I suspected it sounds like its a little pricey. Mentioned it in passing yesterday to the builder and they got on their front foot very quickly, its annoying as we want to have the higher ceilings so cant really do much I don't think. Re: Cost of higher ceilings 18Jan 20, 2011 9:49 am Hi guys, just reviving this thread from a Canberra perspective. We have been quoted $12,000 to raise ceiling to 2700mm in an 18.6 square house. Can anyone pls advise if this is a reasonable price in Cbr these days? Thanks. Re: Cost of higher ceilings 19Jan 20, 2011 12:45 pm Hi FMUS - We paid around 7K (I say around because we got an initial estimate based on 180m/sq house but ended up making it a bit bigger and not sure what we paid in the end cause it wasn't itemised - but I know it didn't increase much). This was end of 2009. Re: Cost of higher ceilings 20Jan 20, 2011 12:48 pm Is all diferent over this way in WA.
