Still pretty ** but feeling a little better.
The brickies have just started, they've only done half a wall so I will take some pics on the w/end to update the blog with. I went up there to meet them today and they seem very nice. It's only a small team, two guys, so it will take a bit longer than we hoped for it to be finished but at least something is happening! Interesting enough, having a chat to the brickie, he's building at the point in Noarlunga Downs with Statesman. He's pretty much had a carbon copy of our experience, his house is also split level. Blows my theory out of the water about bad treatment being due to the house and land package! They obviously don't discriminate about who they give crappy service to Oh and he won hands down with the footings blowout, he's now up to $45k and counting I won't whinge about my footings costs anymore They must've been feeling cheap when they handed ours out! Dena, two years? Most of that was searching for a builder wasn't it, or have you been waiting that long with GJ Gardner? They are one of the builders I have my eye on when we build again! Good luck with the settlement too, that'll take a load off your mind Leigh&Sam, congrats on the drawings The engineers report usually follows in about three weeks (?) that's testing the memory though! Obviously ours took a lot longer (like 4 months longer lol), but we had all the split level headaches. I think that's when this lot run into trouble! Helyn, I remember reading a discussion on here when I first joined up about taking things for the tradies, but it was about the "inside" trades people (gyprockers, painters, tilers etc). It was winter, and they took hot coffee and some cakes/cookies. I remember having a laugh because someone took goodies to all the trades people except for the rude ones and the ones who did a bad job, they got nothing I guess if no-one else gives them anything, they probably didn't miss it anyway! I will go with the slab idea I think, DH can go and organise that though. I have no idea about beer, lol, I just bake cookies and make coffee when I'm being hospitable! GTG, meant to be on here doing banking and then getting ready for work Re: Building in SA! 194Jan 22, 2009 8:20 pm Thanks InfiniteLoop!!! Yeah we have been told 2-3 weeks!!
Quick question for everyone: We are having 9 foot ceilings and above the front door on our drawings it has '300mm Hilite Above Openings' - what does this mean?? Is it bricked, plastered, or glass?? Not sure from what it syas but it looks as though it may be plastered blue board?? Any help would be great!! Also.... is it normal for homes with 9ft ceilings for the windows to be extended or should they be bricked above?? Does that make sense...?? Hope so!! Thanks people!! Any assistance would be great cos we don't want to sign off on something we are not happy with!! Building the 'Clovelly' with Statesman Homes. I really hope they get a move on now....I was the same as you..I really started to resent the house and told DH that I hated it I was just so fed up and couldn,t stand going up to the block to look at nothing being done....anyway things do get better and I,m sure you,ll love your house once you,re in it Try not to get too upset...I know it,s hard We are having our pre-handover inspection next Wednesday even though there are quite a few things left to do on the house and nothing has been done for the last 2 days I,ve given up trying to work them out Anyway with regards to giving the tradies something...we gave the brickies a carton of beer and I think we bought some iced coffees for them a couple of times and we gave the gyprocker a carton and the tilers a dozen. If they are friendly and have done a good job then we like to give them something.... I think we are just so relieved that someone is actually working on our house ! Good luck Tamsin and everyone with your building Cheers Mel Building on 9 acres Re: Building in SA! 197Jan 23, 2009 1:39 pm Thanks for that Jesstibb! We are thinking it is glass as well!! Will soon find out for sure when I speak to the designer but either way I am not too fussed! Kek has posted pics of her door with the glass highlights... very nice and bright!! Any assistance would be great cos we don't want to sign off on something we are not happy with!! We have highlights in our house design. With the 9ft ceilings there is an extra raised but in the middle of the ceiling. The Adelaide MKII in Noarlunga has them. Hope so!! Yes, makes sense - in fact there was a whole thread on here previously about this very question - can't remember what it was called though (great help aren't I? ). In short there were mixed opinions about it so you can do it either way. We have 9 ft ceilings in our house with standard height windows, looks fine, just has more brick above window on outside and more wall above window on inside. Our previous house was also like this. go upvc window frames ensure insulation under colorbond. not just sarking, lighter color roof also not sure if you have seen this viewtopic.php?t=5823 last couple of pages… 4 110588 Even if it's not being sub-divided and you want to keep it as Torrens title, you will still need to talk to a town planner or Council themselves, to see if they will allow… 1 11039 |
