We will keep you posted with any developments and look forward to hearing the same from you! Fingers crossed you have a smooth build!! Hopefully get the final drawings before Christmas, or early in the New Year!! Re: Building in SA! 113Dec 18, 2008 10:50 pm vid To The Marion Council constituents: We were told by our builder that our plans were in at council about 3 weeks ago, but we found out via someone else at the builder that they were only being sent this Tuesday just gone! Because of this I would have expected they would have appeared on the councils website in the application tracking section by now, has anyone had experience with is and knows how long it takes to appear? Vid Finally, our application has appeared on the councils website, we also received a letter from the builder asking us to fill out a colour selection form, one thing we found unusual on this is it states "front doors will NOT be painted in dark colours as warping will occur when exposed to weather" has anyone else had this told to them? Re: Building in SA! 114Dec 19, 2008 6:53 am Vid, our builder made us sign a waiver for the black front door we chose, but at least we were given the choice . It was for the same reasons you stated. Since our front door is well sheltered under eaves, and only cops morning sun (east facing), we are figuring we should be OK. Worst case scenario we need to buy our own new front door *shrug*, doesn't scare me in the slightest given all the hefty variations we've copped along the way. Re: Building in SA! 115Dec 19, 2008 8:18 am Thanks for that ~*InfiniteLoop*~, our door will be facing South and will be sheltered by the front verandah so it will never get the direct sun on it, we will ask the question about the waiver, when we were going through everything with our consultant we talked about the colour of the door because we have made it a larger than standard one and he didn't mention it, hopefully this is all he hasn't mentioned. Re: Building in SA! 116Dec 20, 2008 6:20 am Some good news on my front:
- rolled mortar fee will be waived by my builder - I offered to pay half of the access fee and they accepted - in discussion with builder, they also offered a reasonable discount to the footings (discount is few times bigger than half the access fee). - re the soil, they explained that they need the additional soil first, to build up the block. Then when trenches are dug, excess soil (more than original allowance) has to be removed. Builder offered a less expensive option (using excess soil from other jobs) if available. - demolition has started. Chris Re: Building in SA! 117Jan 03, 2009 4:14 pm Hi Bobby,
Look on the bright side, I signed my initial contract over 12 months ago, and still have no slab! Council approval was only given two months ago. Obviously demolition has taken a while. Re: Building in SA! 119Jan 04, 2009 7:10 pm Vid,
Yes, that's the one. Demolisher was due to finish in late December, but due to equipment breakdown, the finish date has shifted out. Probably will finish early this week. Not that I know much about demolition but it looks like all he needs to do is clear the rubbish away. I also didn't expect so much concrete either. Chris Re: Building in SA! 120Jan 05, 2009 1:27 pm Hi All
I am in the process of getting finance (well it's been approved, but trying to get the builders to sign before sending back, but they are closed til next Monday. ) I am building down at Aldinga in the Eco Village and the slab has been poured (it's part of 24 other units) and am very excited at looking at colours and things. I am building with McCrack3n Homes. This seems like a bad time to be trying to get finance and make appointments for interior selections as everywhere is closed. I have just recently found this forum and it is fantastic. So much fabulous advice and It's great to read about other people building in SA. Kristy Thanks for your reply. I will just wait and see I guess. Trying to get some more information from our builder. 9 30235 go upvc window frames ensure insulation under colorbond. not just sarking, lighter color roof also not sure if you have seen this viewtopic.php?t=5823 last couple of pages… 4 110524 |
