I just had to share our new front door - promised Lex I'd post a photo of it. The old door will go on the workshop out the back, this one came from Doors Plus - it was on special (but still expensive). The leaded glass is sandwiched between two sheets of toughened glass. The doors are beautiful, HellDad, I love the elegant leaded glass, great choice !! Re: Cambridge Chronicle - We Moved in a Year ago! 546Aug 17, 2010 2:08 am Hi everyone, the first anniversary of us moving into our new house has passed by almost unnoticed, and I have good news, especially for Clarendon customers. The good news is this: Nothing has happened! Not that we were waiting for something to happen, no. It's just that no appliances have become faulty, nor has any paint moved from where it was put, nor has it changed colour. No water has leaked where it shouldn't be. The rain tank system continues to work unobtrusively, washing our clothes and flushing our loos. Nothing that gets flushed down a loo is ever seen again. No cracks have appeared in any internal or external walls. Windows and doors open and close, and no rain seeps in when they're closed. What more can I say? Happy campers we are. I hope everyone is as happy as us after a year of occupancy in their new house. Wait! There was one fault - the aircon controller mounted on the wall upstairs failed after a couple of months use and was replaced promptly under warranty - this time with an interference suppressor fitted as they think this is what caused the failure. It was almost a good thing that this happened, because in the course of that episode the aircon unit's computer had to be reset (it's a Carrier) and by sweet talking the techie I now have documented the complicated sequence of button presses required to do this reset. So now I don't need to get a service call if a complete reset fixes a future problem. Unfortunately, the buttons that one must press aren't on the wall upstairs, they're inside the compressor unit, so the procedure should only be attempted by those with electrical qualifications and/or experience - it involves removing the cover on the outside unit and poking at a little internal keypad, sometimes with two hands (think Control-Alt-Delete on a PC) while 415 volts lurk nearby, so not for the faint-hearted. But other than that, nothing has gone wrong. I did feel it necessary to install a third hinge on the door between meals room and laundry - we had ordered a non-standard door which was of a heavy solid exterior grade, but the builder didn't think it necessary to use three hinges as is usual in that situation. So all is well. We're expecting delivery tomorrow of the bits for a nice awning over the back paved area beside the alfresco. I promise pictures eventually. Built the C£arend0n Cambridge: Moved in. What a read BTW Helldad are you TOG Helldad by chance??? Shame that warranty issues are not sorted out as a priority though. I think companies do not realise the extent of how perceptions can be changed on the handling of defects ETC! I went outside once. The graphics were alright, but the gameplay sucked! TOG|Helldad is indeed another of my names, although not very active on the forums there at present. I'm still a TOG sponsor and all my websites are hosted on the TOG servers. Sorry dear readers to carry on this obscure conversation, TOG stands for The Older Gamers, an online gathering place for people who like online gaming, but don't necessarily enjoy the teen aspects of it. You have to be over 25 to join - needless to say, I qualified, in fact my son qualifies. So, mecha, what are you doing here? Are you building a house? Hi Southies, thanks for the bouncing doggie, quite unlike our poor old arthritic cattle dog. I took her for a walk (more of a hobble actually) past your place a few weeks ago, and around that block was just a bit too much for her - almost had to carry her the last 100 metres. By the way, those Tim-Tams I was saving for you were in danger of going past their use-by date, so unfortunately we had to eat them - it was so sad. ...no it wasn't. Hi lex, thanks, and another PM is heading your way. Built the C£arend0n Cambridge: Moved in. Happy campers. Here's our story on HomeOne I might be old, but I have no trouble finishing my... er... Whilst this forum is brilliant to find help when a problem arises or simply to vent, it is wonderfully reasurring to read success stories such as yours. We have recently switched to Cl@rendon after wasting 8 months and $$$ with our previous project builder who were too disorganised to get proper plans drawn up, let alone into Council during that time. 3½ months after signing up at a Cl@rendon display home office, our DA has been lodged with SSC. You'll find plenty of vents about the Bic C in these pages, and our build wasn't a hiccup-free zone, but compared to some we got off pretty lightly. Built the C£arend0n Cambridge: Moved in. Re: Cambridge Chronicle - We Moved in a Year ago! 557Aug 18, 2010 9:00 am Fantastic news HellDad. Really fantastic. Went past your house a few weeks ago on route to Southies place. Recognised it straight away without even knowing where it was Looks just as great in real life, even better. Thanks. Now tell me why there's a steady stream of visitors to Southies who drive by Helldad's without even waving? themax isn't the first to mention this. Was it something I wrote? What's she got that I haven't? Better looking I suppose, and she has actual water views. And her side fence is to die for. No need to go on I suppose. Built the C£arend0n Cambridge: Moved in. Re: Cambridge Chronicle - We Moved in a Year ago! 559Aug 30, 2010 1:11 pm As promised, here are the "before" and "after" photos of the pergola we had built next to the alfresco - it took 2 days to build, finished last week. The only complaint we've had so far is from the occupants of the bedroom overlooking the structure - "we can't see into the yard". The umbrella is a bit superfluous, but SWMBO's mum reckons it should stay "for atmosphere".
