Noone can tell me about getting the RECs refund on the Solar Hot Water System to be installed. From the info I can find new builds also qualify for RECs on HWS which is about $1000-1500 depending on size of the tank. Were you able to get this refund? Re: Cambridge Chronicle - We Have Moved In! 456Aug 25, 2009 11:49 am Hi HellDad, Do you have the solar hot water system? How long did it take for yours to heat up to have some decent hot water? For mine, it has been a week for since installation. It is getting warmer...but just not hot enough. Just wondering if it is working ok. BTW, mine is electric boosted, not sure if that makes a difference. How long did it take for yours to heat up to have some decent hot water? Another thing that can slow it down is the presence of air in the solar panels - this can happen if the installers didn't correctly "commission" the system and bleed all the air out of it. Also, did you know that the temperature monitor and pump that circulates the water to the roof must be powered on at all times? It is not connected to the same supply as the booster. Ours is powered by an exterior power point next to the tank. You should have a slowly flashing green light when the pump is circulating water through the panels, and a steady green light when there is insufficient sun and the pump has stopped. If your house is on a new digital electricity meter you have "time of use" metering, and Rheem recommends that you put a timer in the circuit for your booster so you can prevent it running during peak periods when power is about 500% dearer than off peak. It will require an electrician to do that work. I did my own, don't tell anyone. We're quite disappointed with the way our hot water pipe design works - we use about 6 litres of cold water in our kitchen sink while waiting for the hot water to arrive. That kind of makes a farce of the BASIX requirements where you get points for a rain water tank, but don't lose any points for a poorly designed piping system. I now recall a switch labelled "HWS" inside my laundry. I will check this out if this is on. There is a green light on a unit attached to the tank. What do you mean by "steady green light"? The light is on at the moment (ie, not flashing). Does it mean the pump is not working??
