Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jul 19, 2024 7:08 pm Hi, looking for some advice on cutting as new extension roof into an old roof. I plan to put in a valley and was wondering do i need to actually cut my existing common rafters to insert a valley rafter and then tie in new creeper rafters or they ok to tie into existing common rafters? I would then just lay my valley boards on the tie in. Hope this is clear enough?? Thanks in advance Re: New roof cut into old roof 4Jul 20, 2024 12:06 pm Basically pulling the gable left into existing roof, will run a valley at the top where the existing asbestos facia sheets meet the roof peak. There is a valley on the other side at the peak which will be where I will basically start my run, let me know of more details required Re: New roof cut into old roof 5Jul 20, 2024 4:36 pm I understand that you are extending the roof to cover the square garden area below, correct? If so, you would need to continue with the right roof via roof trusses that is supported over the existing wall and a veranda roof beam then continue with valley trusses over the left roof. Ensure adequate existing walls, roof members, tie downs and footings to take existing and new loads. Re: New roof cut into old roof 6Jul 21, 2024 3:01 am Is the existing roof trusses or stick roof? Will there be any potential structural issues? Noting that… 0 23087 *possibbly damaged pipe joint. Worth an inspection, but lets not assume. 4 30587 I would still ask the question, see if you can get your builder to do it 3 30766 ![]() |
