Hey guys,
I signed a contract with thermally broken windows, however, I am forced to use uPVC.
They state that uPVC has better energy rating, is this true?
Thanks,
Jonathan. VIC

Re: uPVC or Thermally Broken windows 5Jun 12, 2024 12:53 pm Jumping onto this thread. I'm allowing $1,000/sqm for uPVC double glazed windows. I have Duoglass Salamander profile retrofitted to the rest of the home and i'm looking to match the profile in the extension. My architect seems to think $1,000/sqm isn't enough. I have two 2.7x2.4 glass sliders in the mix, which may be more than the $1,000/sqm, but every other window is pretty standard sizing and not much bigger than what was retrofitted to the existing house. @Ashington Homes - is this about right from your point of view? Perth Re: uPVC or Thermally Broken windows 6Jun 14, 2024 8:55 am I own two houses with each and I can tell you Thermally broken are much more expensive and superior. They also don’t have as much condensation If I were you I’d be mad your builder is trying to pull the wool over your eyes Re: uPVC or Thermally Broken windows 7Jun 14, 2024 12:32 pm ![]() I own two houses with each and I can tell you Thermally broken are much more expensive and superior. What was the cost difference in installation? Re: uPVC or Thermally Broken windows 8Jun 17, 2024 9:02 pm Just ask for the U-values of the window to compare performance. The lower the better, but anything 2 or under is very good. From what I understand, aluminium thermally broken versus uPVC are comparable (maybe upvc a bit better) thermally. uPVC is a low conductor of heat by nature. Plenty of passive houses use uPVC. It's a great product. We have them and we think they look good. Re: uPVC or Thermally Broken windows 9Jun 17, 2024 9:51 pm ![]() Just ask for the U-values of the window to compare performance. They charged us for Thermally Broken, but are giving us uPVC. ![]() Re: uPVC or Thermally Broken windows 10Jun 17, 2024 10:46 pm ![]() ![]() Just ask for the U-values of the window to compare performance. Re: uPVC or Thermally Broken windows 11Jun 18, 2024 8:58 pm I thought uPVC is more expensive. Maybe thats changed? I've lived with uPVC overseas and it was fantastic. However I've always worried about the harsh sun in Australia. It can probably do a bit of damage to the rubber looking stuff they use to thermally break too, but at least theres less exposed. 3 5676 ![]() your builder would be able to answer that question accurately based on plan. 1 1020 I have an investment property and tenants moved out recently.
