Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Nov 03, 2008 10:29 pm Stone the flamin' crows! Here were are, November, and I hadn't gotten around to tellin' youse about the grouse new diner, er house that me 'n' Ails we're gettin' done!
All started ages back when me 'n' AIls decided (well she decided) that we oughta put our hard-earned in bricks'n'mortar. Now I wouldabeen happy enough to buy an old fibro place on the bay, but you know Ails, she wanted the works'n'jerks... so anyway, we hadabituva look at a block in a new estate near Caboolture - bit of a hike to work, but nice and close to the Surf Club (well, the one at Bribie anyway), and at a good price! So we slapped down the folding and waited for the land to register... and waited... and waited... Eventually it came good.. by which time we'd had nearly eight months of bluing over what to drop on the block. We went with Coral, since the missus liked the way they structured their packages... we had mates built with them a couple of years back, and their house hasn't fallen over, so we figured they were doing something right... argued about what house then, since she wanted an activity room for little Roo, and whatever grandchildren come out of the woodwork come ratings time. I wanted a stack of room in the garage for me boat, and we both wanted the dunny to be accessible for when Flynn and Sally popped over for a cold one (although that's not gunna be happening now! Damn the developer and the time it took to register the land! Sal would've loved the place) without having the guests tromping through the kids domain (that way we can leave it looking like a bomb hit the joint and just swing the door shut!). So anyway, we picked the Daydream. We signed on the dotted line, got our balaclavas and sawn-offs, and went to the bank to sort out the finance... Actually Aussie Bill saved us there... So come September 15, Stu the Builder got us out of the cot nice and early to have another look at the plans and the block, and he had it cut by lunchtime.... piped by the 26th... slabbed and framed by the time Bathurst rolled around... roofed for the 24th... and now bricked and the internal plastering done for the end of the month! Honestly, with the number of invoices they've been sending me, I've been slipping more letters into the broker's mail slot than a boatload of horny sailors on shore leave down the Valley, oh hang on, turn it up! Aussie Bill leaves a light on for me these days! So it's all coming together. Stu the Builder's warned us not to get too attached to the idea of deckin' the halls for Chrissy, seeing how the boys knock off in the middle of December... I figure that you get that, and if we were there for the holidays, every flamin' mongrel'd wanna be on my couch drinkin' me Fourex for the Boxing Day test! Only drama's we've seen were a couple of defect notices I noticed on the plumbing, something about water and electricity not bein' so red-hot when you shove them down the same hole in the floor or something... making a point of discussing that once I get hold of me ol mate.. Morag reckons she'll sort 'em out, but I reckon she's jumping the gun, and it's nuthin that can't be settled over a good weekend away in the tent on the beach just me and the boys, with a shedload of beer, and absolutely no homoerotic overtones. So anyway, that's where we are right now... Might get around to gloating about the colours that Ails picked later on... it's still a sore point. I wanted basic green 'n' gold with the flag tiled into the roof, but she gets a bit funny about bein' patriotic... bit politically correct I reckon she is... Anyway, better get crackin'... these prawns won't shell themselves, and there's about twelve stubbies need gettin' rid off before they go on the turn... and since she's off the turps, I'll have to look after that meself... Turn it up, Ails! I'll get some photos up once Ails gets the fillum back from the chemists She's up me for not buyin' one of them new-fangled pixelator digimon thingies, but the old Kodak Instamatic's alright by me - we took our honeymoon photos with it when we towed the ol' Viscount van to Grong Grong behind me old Kingswood, and they came out ok... I'm living in Canada at the moment and with that story you have made my day
Lord I miss the Australian accent... After 2 false starts, a year living overseas, two more world trips and 3 years of uncertainty we are now starting the build process again - hopefully for real this time! Would love to see your progress as we are building the daydream 279 with coral also..cant wait to see pics Built a modified "Daydream 279" .. Cor@l Homes on a flat 4473m block!! And lov'n it!!! Re: Alf and Ails' Daydream 232 10Nov 06, 2008 11:20 am Yairs, she's all go! I skulked around a bit yesterday morning to get out of the rain and blow me if I didn't trip over a pile of internal doors and skirting board timber and stuff!
Stu the Builder was on the blower this morning to let me know that the chippie from across the road (they're building a shedload of houses in the estate, so they've pretty much got a roving scrum of tradies that blow around the streets like tumbleweeds, with a heap of houses looking more and more assembled in their wake) was gunna get stuck in this morning... Sounds like there'll be doors to slam by the weekend! Turn it up, Ails! Re: Alf and Ails' Daydream 232 12Nov 06, 2008 12:29 pm What a crack up. We're building with Coral too, so I'm looking forward to seeing those pictures and hearing how everything's going. Well done! You've got our attention now.
