Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 01, 2024 10:46 am Hi all - 8 years after our last build we're looking to do it again. This time we're looking for a very different design. We're looking for a double-storey build suitable for a reasonably narrow lot (12m), with the master bedroom at the rear of the second floor. We're looking for 3 or 4 bedrooms, with a retreat/lounge for the kids toward the front of the house (either floor). We also prefer an L shaped kitchen/dining/lounge rather than one looooong room. We're wanting a walk-in wardrobe and ensuite for the master bed and a walk-in pantry. The Metricon Metro (below) looks like it ticks our boxes, but we want a couple of other options to compare. Any suggestions?? Except upstairs living and bed 2 are swapped positions. Are you sure you want a bedroom facing out to the street? A few other minor differences but basically the same. If we were building again main thing we'd change would be to have a guest bedroom and bathroom downstairs but thats just our personal situation with family/guests visiting. We have a large void at entry similar to you - the downside is that allows noise/air con to easily travel upstairs but overall the impact of a large 6m high void with chandelier still gives wow factor 4 years in. Overall the layout functions really well but I would strongly suggest you add an internal door between laundry and garage. We use this more than our front door and is especially handy for unloading groceries etc into the pantry. Agree, the door between pantry and garage just makes sense. We're also looking to extend the outdoor entertainment and add a balcony off the master (which is why we want the master at rear) for the view. We have two bedrooms facing the street where we are now, doesn't bother us but happy not to have them facing the street too. We used a smaller qld builder who went bankrupt about 12 months after completion of ours. It was a shame as they were good and relatively cheap and I would have used them again. Perhaps too cheap hence going out of business.
