Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jan 04, 2024 4:11 pm Hi all, I recently built and I am not too happy with the space between the floors and the skirting. See image attached. Can I put some sort of seal to make it look more seamless? I have heard that it is not wise to do so as the floating boards shift and move. Anyone have any ideas on this? @ashington Homes Thank you all imageskirting and floorboardLike ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Skirting and Floorboard space 2Jan 04, 2024 10:47 pm As you've alluded to, the space is important in a floating floor as it allows for movement. You could try something like scotia - but you'd still only fix the scotia to the skirting board in order to keep the gap, although it may be slightly less visible with scotia. Technically some flexible sealand could work fine, but personally im not sure id care for that look either. Re: Skirting and Floorboard space 4Jan 05, 2024 10:08 am Did they put fix the skirting first leaving a gap ,then lay the floor underneath? Maybe they did this to save time/money? Seems strange there is any gap. Even with the skirting resting on the baords, the boards can still expand and contract. Our skirting is hard up against the engineered floor boards though our boards are glued to the slab.
