Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Just curious.... 21Nov 02, 2008 10:56 am Hey Becster, I love B#@umonde Homes, they are really good quality builders. So do they let you go back and forth with colour ideas and they reput them into your facade or is it just the facades themselves they change. Re: Just curious.... 22Nov 02, 2008 5:03 pm Gweluphome - that is great to hear affirmation like that! So far so good, they have just laid the first floor slab and the second floor brickwork starts this week. And we are not far from you either!
Not sure about the colours, as we chose the facade first and then I worked out the render colours etc by myself so whether they would have done that for us I don't know. It was just the facade that they would input for us, based on photos etc brochures etc that we would show them. But after doing all that, we went with the one on the display Re: Just curious.... 23Nov 03, 2008 9:00 pm Maxie We were very unimpressed by the lack of any software or technological assistance to help make the choices - it has been 13 years since we last built and we just assumed that things would have progressed greatly by now..... We asked M3tric0n very early in the process whether a computer image of our desired facade/brick colour existed, and the reply was an emphatic NO, because it will never look the same on a computer monitor as it does in real life. Imagine the legal ramifications. Surely there's enough display villages and new neighbourhoods around to get a firm idea if one wants a portico or not, render or not, roof tiles or colourbond, light or dark bricks etc. Geoff - Decophile. Re: Just curious.... 24Nov 04, 2008 10:49 am Eager Surely there's enough display villages and new neighbourhoods around to get a firm idea if one wants a portico or not, render or not, roof tiles or colourbond, light or dark bricks etc. But it's the combination of all those and how it looks together that's the issue. You can't think of them in individual terms. For Met to say it will never look the same in real life is partly true. But it's better than just relying on your imagination or putting all your trust in a colour consultant....No?. It's BIG dollars buyers are spending. Quote: Imagine the legal ramifications Surely they can get around this but stipulating that the image is a estimation/representation only, not an exact reproduction. On my contract…I have it as, …..A representation only! Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: Just curious.... 26Nov 04, 2008 12:07 pm It can only ever be a representation - as others have said, building companies could simply get around the issue by having the customer sign a form acknowledging that the coloured picture is only a representation etc and no responsibility is taken for variances in colour etc.
And as D@n says, the combination of render, roof colour, brick colour etc is something you are unlikely to come across in the exact same same combination by driving around and looking at displays etc. Re: Just curious.... 27Nov 04, 2008 12:47 pm Well, think of it this way then.
Instead of trying to imagine brick type 1 matched with tile type 2 against render type 3, and never finding a real life example, why not cruise the new suburbs until you find something you actually like, and then get it built? Altenatively, if you have your heart set on a cetain colour of brick for example, make the effort to drag yourself away from the computer (the one that doesn't give you a proper representation anyway) and go to the distributor! I'm sorry but I can't understand peoples hang-ups with exterior materials and colours, it was just about the easiest thing in the whole process for us. Geoff - Decophile. So you just copy what someone else does. Using your theory, houses will eventually look the same from suburb to suburb. Where's the innovation?...where's the progress?. And like anything materials change over time. New bricks and new colours get added. Finding that house you like in the 'new' suburb was because someone took the time to experiment with colours, textures and shapes until they came up with something they liked. They didn't drive to a new estate and just copied something. Re: Just curious.... 30Nov 04, 2008 2:15 pm d@n Using your theory, houses will eventually look the same from suburb to suburb. I hope OZ never gets that bad. I'm recycling photos but this is an estate in Sanctuary Lakes, in Point Cook, Victoria....look familiar...it's one of these gated communities and all the houses are the same... One of my pet dislikes everyones houses looking the same in the same area. Imagine having an imagination and living in there or at least at the choosing of materials and colour consult you can be quick and easy.... Sir.......What colour would you like your roof?.........."Same as next door" Sir.......What colour would you like your render ? "OOh I don't know I can't visualise so I know, the same as next door. Sir.......What colour would you like your paving? "Wow let me think all these decisions, I suppose it looks good next door, how about those colours......... This forum wouldn't exist in that estate..... I like the idea that my home externally looks nothing like anyone elses......It feel like its a stamp of your personality and when you spend your life aiming to build yourself your dream home and you spend your hard earned dollars on it you want to know its everything you dreamed of, that includes colours and materials and how they look together. I suppose whats important and a priority to one person isn't always the same as the next.
