Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Nov 14, 2023 7:36 pm Hi all I have a balustrade which is approx 6m long. Underneath the balustrade I have installed a long piece of 140x35mm timber. The balustrade is screwed into this which is then screwed through yellow tongue and into the upper storey joists. The problem I have is the wall underneath the timber is not straight over the 5m span. It’s a bit of a wave. So the long piece of timber starts flush at one side of the wall, then goes in half way through then overhangs down the other side. I can’t manipulate the timber to suit the wall as it’s solid. In hindsight I should’ve installed the timber with a 20mm overhang to try and hide the wave through the wall, but what’s done is done and I’m trying to rectify the problem. I’ve tried to blend the wall to suit the timber with putty and base coat plaster. I thought this would crack eventually but gave it a shot anyways. 2 months later it has all cracked. I then tried builders bog, but that stuff is too hard to blend such a large span. And it’s very difficult to sand once it’s dry. Plaster beads won’t work either. Is there anything else people can think of? Ideally something similar to top coat where it can be easily applied, feathered out and sanded to hide the wave. Obviously Top coat won’t work :/ Re: Plaster meets wood - how to fill 2Nov 15, 2023 2:46 pm afpo23 Hi all I have a balustrade which is approx 6m long.
