Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Oct 28, 2023 6:19 pm Hi Folks, I am after an advice on the first floor subfloor material for a new build. Builder has included 19mm orange tongue particleboard sub-flooring. I know that particle board is not as strong as Plywood subfloor and more prone to water damage. Is it better to install a plywood subfloor as I am after solid floor feel which I am not sure if we get with particleboard subfloor. Price is around 3k extra for 15mm plywood floor and 4.5k for 19mm plywood floor. I wondering if it worth paying the extra or particleboard is fine in terms of giving a solid floor feel. Please share your thoughts and recommendation. Re: Need Subfloor Advice for a new build! 3Oct 29, 2023 10:10 am Hi alexp79, XCEM Alpha flooring seems to relatively new and I could not found any reviews. Have you or someone you know have used it and would recommend over other subfloor options? Do you have any idea of supply and installation cost per sqm for XCEM Alpha flooring? Also, I want to know if Alphafloor panels considerably lower the noise (talking, music etc.) transmission between between floors on their own or I will need additional measures such as soundscreen? If the build keeps returning, thats a plus!! but it would also suggest he doesnt know what his looking for, an independent inspector should have fresh eyes on the issue. Good luck 1 2675 Jimbo73 I would use heaps of adhesive on each sheet and screw rather than nail. use as many as you like cheers Simeon 1 5140 Would also like an opinion from anyone that has used xcem over hebel for floors.
