Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Wow...someone used our new toilet!! 2Nov 18, 2008 8:24 pm Disgusting isn't it.....I don't think they are supposed to, usually they have their little portaloos, but if one is tempted with a new toilet to sit on, I don't reckon any tradey is going to pass that up. I am going to tape mine shut with electrical tape. Re: Wow...someone used our new toilet!! 3Nov 18, 2008 8:59 pm Our toilets aren,t in yet so we had some little #*@! crap and wee in our WIR
We couldn,t believe it....the gyprockers left us a note warning us so we wouldn,t tread in it....they were going to move it,but apparently it was still steaming and they hadn,t thought to bring their pooper scooper I can,t wait until the house is locked up But yes...I think it,s wrong that they used your toilet...you,ve every right to be angry about it Mel Building on 9 acres Re: Wow...someone used our new toilet!! 5Nov 18, 2008 9:15 pm Once the water is connected and toilets installed, the portaloo is usually removed - the builder pays to hire them, after all.
I don't mind tradies using my toilets, but I do object to them wiping their soiled hands on my newly painted walls (what, do they not bring toilet paper, so just use their hands?) Looks like the cleaners and painters get some extra work to do. Re: Wow...someone used our new toilet!! 6Nov 18, 2008 9:21 pm Sorry, I sort of don't get this... It's a toilet. Does it matter?
My theory in the whole building process is pick your battles, and I just can't see that this is one of them... Jo I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Wow...someone used our new toilet!! 7Nov 18, 2008 9:23 pm I have to say I don't think I'd mind at all having the tradies (not randoms) use the loos, provided they flushed! Portaloos are pretty nasty... I wouldn't wish them on anyone un-necessarily. If I had a tradie in my completed house to do any work I'd be offering them the use of the bathroom, so I'm not worried about the tradies on-site having the same access to amenities.
Melanie, that's disgusting! Did you complain to the builder?! Re: Wow...someone used our new toilet!! 8Nov 18, 2008 9:23 pm I don't think I'd mind too much about tradies doing a piddle in my toilet but in the WIR????!!!!!
I wouldn't expect my dog to do that And wiping their hands on your wall haven't these people heard of basic hygiene????? Re: Wow...someone used our new toilet!! 9Nov 18, 2008 9:38 pm Well, when they hide their lunch leftovers in your kitchen cupboards and leave their used teabags on your (to be stained) timber window sills, you have to wonder if they even have brains...
I agree that picking your battles is important. And if it's something REALLY important to you, cry. It works wonders. Re: Wow...someone used our new toilet!! 10Nov 18, 2008 9:39 pm DH did mention it to our SS today and he was stunned that anyone, even a child would do such a thing
Our kids 6 and 14 were just disgusted....I can put up with most things, but it,s almost a violation Getting back to the tradies using the loo; if the porta-loo has been removed then I have no probs. with them using the toilet and would even provide the toilet paper.....I regularly clean the porta-loo that,s on our site and make sure there is toilet paper and that the tank has water in it...you,d think the hiring company would come out every so often and give it a bit of a clean Mel Building on 9 acres Re: Wow...someone used our new toilet!! 11Nov 18, 2008 9:42 pm kek I agree that picking your battles is important. God I hope that wink is because what you said is a joke.... that's the exact reason and attitude that makes us not be taken seriously as women by the bloody builders in the first place. Terrence Malick Re: Wow...someone used our new toilet!! 12Nov 18, 2008 9:52 pm Our toilet was disgusting at handover ... think it took a couple of days for me to get up the guts to head in there with the disinfectant it smelt so bad.
Edit: Not to mention all the dents in the walls from the tradies toolbelts ... and the wee on the walls. Re: Wow...someone used our new toilet!! 13Nov 18, 2008 10:09 pm I don't understand why the cleaning poeple don't clean the toilets properly before handing these houses over. I would make the SS clean it when I did the last inspection if it wasn't done prior. As long as they are using the toilet properly and its clean before handing over thats fine with me. Unfortunately we are not supposed to be onsite until after handover anyway and shouldn't see these things. I have to say though the site toilets are pretty disgusting and I think some of the tradies are pretty feral.
I am still not sure how to respond about the crap in the WIR. Thats got me stunned. If you were 20 weeks past your alleged completion date, and fast going broke, not to mention seeing your dream home turn out to be a ** piece of work, you'd be shedding some tears too. They're real, not fake....and if anything good comes out of being driven to that point, I'll take it. They take me seriously, don't worry about that. Re: Wow...someone used our new toilet!! 16Nov 19, 2008 6:30 am The cleaning people do clean all toilets, unfortunately its the tradies that come back after the final clean that make the mess. My SIL use to clean new homes and bust her back in making them nice for the new owners. They use to be paid 50 cents to clean each window which sometimes took up to 45 mins to clean properly. The builders not only paid them a pittance but treated them like second class citizens. I think in the end she was getting $9 an hour and her company had to fold...there is always someone else who will work for less
