Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Aug 29, 2023 12:53 pm Hi Guys, I am building a new double storey house in Guildford, Sydney. I will be spending they majority of my time downstairs and want to minimise the noise from those upstairs. From reading these forums, it seems concrete is best for this purpose; but I don’t have any objective way of comparing the noise reduction to other options like Hebel or Alphafloor. I tried visiting display homes, but they all seem to have straight timber floors. So my questions to the wise people of this forum would be: 1. Assuming we have deployed Hebel with yellow tongue and acoustic insulation in between the floor joists, how would that compare to a concrete floor, does it cut out 50% less noise or 90% less noise? 2. What type of sounds should I expect to hear from a Hebel floor, e.g. would a 2 year old running upstairs be heard from downstairs? 3. Is there anywhere is Sydney I can actually hear what a Hebel/yellow tongue/acoustic installation floor would sound like? 4. Does anyone know have first hand experience of both (or Alphafloor) and would like to share their thoughts of how they stack up against each other? I am assuming concrete floors are more expensive, so just trying to evaluate if the extra cost is worth it to me. I am still in my design phase, so I don’t have quotes to go off yet. I appreciate any help or advise people would like to pass on. Re: Concrete vs Hebel 2Aug 29, 2023 2:36 pm mahmoud Hi Guys, I am building a new double storey house in Guildford, Sydney. Re: Concrete vs Hebel 3Aug 29, 2023 4:27 pm You should probably try giving a call to XCEM guys and ask them where are the nearest display homes with Alphafloor. I think one solid advantage of Alphafloor over Hebel is that it is much thinner while, according to the manufacturer, providing better levels of acoustic insulation. But agree, nothing compares to own experience. Will be interested to learn more about your own experience with Alphafloor if you manage to find a house. Re: Concrete vs Hebel 4Aug 29, 2023 4:40 pm I have reached out to XCEM to see if they have any display homes in Sydney and Simeon was nice enough to let me onsite to take a look at the Hebel. I will take a look on the weekend and let everyone know what I found. Re: Concrete vs Hebel 5Aug 30, 2023 4:38 pm Since you are in the design stage then I would direct your questions, in writing of course, to your designer. Depending on the trust you have in the competence of your designer, I would then pay for an acoustic engineer to provide you with answers to the same questions. Acoustics are tricky and there are myths surrounding the subject. That's why I recommend paying for an "expert" in the field. I was looking at different options for a fence for my build and Hebel PowerFence seemed like a good option (one of the criteria was a solid wall look). However, I don't… 0 5917 1 6651 1000000% definitely add insulation. I have in my home and it makes a big difference minimising sound transfer. Insulation is pretty cheap and definitely worth it 2 6254 |
