Hi,
My partner and I are looking at buying land and building a home in Healesville, Victoria. We are already confused about how to start the process!
There are a few blocks around, some more expensive than others, some sloping, etc. It seems to me a sort of Catch-22 situation of whether to buy land, not really knowing how much it will cost to build on it, or to choose a builder and a design, not knowing for sure the details of a block of land you might buy. In other words how can we know how much money we have to spend on a house prior to purchasing land? Do builders come out and look at the land for you to give you a quote, before you've purchased the land?
Can anyone recommend a good, clear guide to the homebuilding process that addresses the above issue? Also, what should we look for in a builder, how should we choose one? We are keen for it to be as environmentally friendly as possible, but we have a pretty tight budget. It would be nice for it to be designed in a way that environmentally friendly parts can be added easily at a later date.
Thankyou very much for any advice or suggestions on how to go about starting this.
