Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Has anyone seen or have 3m ceilings? 2Aug 27, 2013 2:49 pm We're having 3m ceilings in our entry and 2.7m elsewhere. I've seen 3m ceilings in the entry of a display house and it's certainly got WOW. I know of quite a few people on here who have 3m ceilings throughout. My personal opinion is that ceilings can be TOO high and things start to feel less cosy/comfortable and more vast/echoey (although it depends on size of rooms etc). So I wouldn't do 3m ceilings throughout. But I might be in the minority with that opinion. Re: Has anyone seen or have 3m ceilings? 5Aug 27, 2013 4:10 pm We are having a 3550mm (or 3.55m) vaulted ceiling over our open plan living, kitchen and dining room. It certainly made us go "wow" when we saw it on display. The rest of the house will be 2590mm ceilings (entry foyer is 2890mm). The house we live in now is a split level late 70s build with peaked cathedral ceilings. It is 16ft high at the highest "peak" inside. Crazy. Also, its really cold in there in winter.... brrrrr Thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=66299 Slab: 16/6/14 Frame: 4/7/14 Roof: 22/7/14 Lock Up: 20/8/14 Fixing: 26/8/14 PCI: 9/10/14 Handover: 20/10/14 Re: Has anyone seen or have 3m ceilings? 6Aug 27, 2013 6:06 pm We had it in an older rental house and hated it. Cobwebs everywhere and hard to get rid of. We had to paint one of the rooms and had to be up a ladder for most of it. The rather large bedrooms seemed smaller then they were. If you really want them I would only go for it in main areas, not bedrooms, but be prepared to have a difficult time changing lightbulbs, cleaning up cobwebs and painting. It definitely gives a "wow" factor used that way, I'm not sure what it would look like throughout the home in comparison to 2.7m throughout Custom European Cabinets - Melbourne Kitchen Specialist PM for business details as website currently being updated! It gave my house a WOW factor and it sold to the first buyer who went through. In my new build we went with 3m ceilings in entry and it definitely impresses people who come to our house. We have 2.7m throughout the rest of the house. I don't think it looks boxy... I think the lighting also plays part of the grand entrance as well. Re: Has anyone seen or have 3m ceilings? 10Aug 27, 2013 8:12 pm We have a 600mm step halfway through our home so we have 2.4M at the front for the entry and bedrooms and then you go down 3 stairs to 3M ceilings at the rear of the home which has our kitchen and main living areas. We also lifted the window heights, bulkheads and internal doors to suit which really makes it. It certainly makes you go wow when you walk in that's for sure. I think 3M is a good height and it suits the rooms, any higher though and I think it would look a bit funny. The house is all but finished so I cannot comment about heating or cooling issues with the high ceilings. Re: Has anyone seen or have 3m ceilings? 11Aug 27, 2013 8:35 pm Here are our 3.3 m ceilings, we have 2.7m at the front and 3.3 at the back, I just tried to show a few different photos to give you an idea. We increased the height of our doors and windows. We love it. The room heats extremely well with the fireplace, and is very cool in summer, I assume as the note air is rising so high! On reflection this sort of behavior maybe why we can't attract females into the industry!! @builderforlife Building inspector and passionate about construction When you need an expert to take a look. Re: Has anyone seen or have 3m ceilings? 14Aug 27, 2013 11:48 pm I dont know how high our ceilings are in meters but we have 31 course in most of our house and 34 in our study, main bedroom and ensuite Re: Has anyone seen or have 3m ceilings? 15Aug 28, 2013 12:01 am Have not seen mine yet as the house is yet to be built as it is still getting the engineering plans approved. Basically the front entrance is open void to the second floor with guest and laundry at 31 course then the floor splits lower to 38c for the kitchen, powder, scullery, dining, lounge, theatre and alfresco. Upstairs is all 32c with three velux roof windows in the family area. Hopefully it looks good, fingers crossed....... Our house which has approximately 1 x 3rd as 2.4M ceilings and 2 x 3rds as 3M ceilings cost $26000 to step the slab 600mm which gave us the 3M ceilings in 210sqm of living space and 45sqm of Alfresco. There is heaps more work involved for the trades, all the high work has to be done off ladders and planks. I thought this was good value as it included the 600mm drop down section of the slab. Some have said it looks smaller because it makes the house look boxy.. Any truth to this?? It depends on the style and size/proportions of your home. Small rooms with 2.7m ceilings look/feel 'boxy' let alone 3.0m ceilings. Our new place has 2.7m everywhere except the kitchen/living/dining room which has a racked ceiling that is 3m to 4m high. The room is long and wide enough to suit the higher ceiling - looks fine and feels big and airy. My parents have a country homestead/'queenslander' style home that has 3.3m ceilings throughout - it suits the style and size/proportions of their home. ----------------------------------------------- http://pab34newdigs.blogspot.com.au/ ----------------------------------------------- Re: Has anyone seen or have 3m ceilings? 20Aug 28, 2013 3:30 pm I think its good value. Its a big job and worth paying for if the finished house will fit on your block better. I've got a half meter step down (from 2.6m to 3.1m) and it adds an extra dimension to the whole house. It allows for some good lights and/or fans which can bring the ceiling down. Thanks mate. Yeah good points!
