I was told by prospective builders that if I wanted to go ahead with my current plans (modern build, with a lot of windows to let in natural light) that we'd want to get it all moving ASAP since 7 star energy rating is required by 1 Oct 2023.
I understand this to be permits approved. I can see it mentioned here as well: https://www.energy.vic.gov.au/for-house ... -questions
- The new energy efficiency provisions under NCC 2022 are available now to allow the construction industry to make necessary adjustments and bring new projects in line with the uplifted standards. During the transition period, homes will be permitted to be built to either NCC 2019 or the new improved NCC 2022 standards.
- The new standards will commence from 1 October 2023.
- The new 7 star standard is the minimum standard that new homes should be built to. This means that homeowners can already build to a higher star rating if they choose to do so.
Has anyone tried to understand the impact?
Ideally I would like more time to finalise building plans, etc. But I'm worried (and the builder suggested this as well) that 7 stars requirement would mean that perhaps the windows would need to reduce, or need to be triple-glazed - which would be really expensive.
Anyone else going through this?
Anyone with idea on cost from double to triple glazing?
Thanks
