Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Oct 28, 2008 3:53 pm So thinking back to when I was looking to buy a house I was impressed by some builders display homes and amazed at others (some good, some bad!)
Rather than running a poll (as it is hardto get everyone's builders in) who was your favourite and why? Personally I was blown away with the presentation of the Porter Davis Homes with Carlisle Homes a close second. The designers at Porter Davis just (in my opinion) got it right! Colours, design, relevance, furnishing ... the lot! Re: Who was / is your favourite display home Builder? 2Oct 28, 2008 3:59 pm Well that must have been a while ago Matt because PD at the moment is going with these two themes....
"Martha Stewart on crack" and "We just picked random crap, threw it in the house.... and wadda ya think?" Off the top of my head, I actually love the Urbayne Homes at Caroline Springs. Understated and classy, really lets the house do the talking. Carlisle I think present their homes beautifully and I think M3tricon generally get it right... BUT they are optioned up to the eyeballs. Jo I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. I personally like Snowdon, i have a 'home' feeling by walking into their display house Blog - http://clageonewhouse.blogspot.com/ Building Thread - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=10886&hilit=milan I am in, with my husband and my beautiful bunny Re: Who was / is your favourite display home Builder? 4Oct 28, 2008 4:43 pm I've only seen a few different builders display homes but I was impressed by PD's display homes the most. They have put an enormous amount of effort into their displays and their website.
One drawback is that most home buyers could not possibly emulate these diplays as PD seem to have an open cheque book, using the best possible furnishings and interior designers not to mention every option possible - most of the furniture isn't even available in regular stores. I looked at Coco Republic where most of it comes from and I wouldn't even dare walk in there. One thing I can say for H3nly was that at least their homes were presented in a way the the customer might actually be able to afford. Re: Who was / is your favourite display home Builder? 5Oct 28, 2008 4:47 pm Without having been at the actual displays, just from their website, my absolute favourite has to be Clendon Vale, ridiculous prices though. For me, their homes look stunning. Re: Who was / is your favourite display home Builder? 7Oct 28, 2008 6:32 pm Urban Edge have been my favorite so far. Worst would have to be National Builders. I don't know what their interior decorator was thinking putting purple and yellow laminate together Yetch! Built with Bentley homes in Doreen All moved in Dec 2009 Now for the garden! Our stuff so far viewtopic.php?f=31&t=16532 Re: Who was / is your favourite display home Builder? 8Oct 28, 2008 8:36 pm I haven't been to many displays lately, but when we were looking at builders Porter Davis was my favourite. I also love their website.
I have been meaning to check out Urbayne and will have to add Snowdon and Clendon Vale to my list too now. Re: Who was / is your favourite display home Builder? 9Oct 28, 2008 8:38 pm We only saw a few..and of course PD was our favourite...
I can tell you the worst we saw was Orbit...they had nothing in their display home...duno if that was intentional or not Re: Who was / is your favourite display home Builder? 10Oct 28, 2008 8:43 pm My absolute faves were the Clendonvale houses at Keysborough , which was H3nley's attempt at capturing the top end of the market. Huge flop for them in terms of sales, I think - they closed and sold them very quickly, and have now just rebranded themselves as that, but those 3 houses were absolutely stunning - the finishes and th fit outs made me drool with desire!!!
I think M3tric0n do a great job with their displays - always impressive. Obviously a big fan of PD, as that's who we're building with, and I have to say that even though I often walk in to other companies' and other PD houses, as soon as I walk into the one we're building , I fell a sense of "Ahhh....this is 'home'! " Which is just as well!!!! I imagine a lot of us feel that way! Solidarity, not solidity.......The Lexicon of Life Re: Who was / is your favourite display home Builder? 11Oct 28, 2008 9:06 pm For me, it was the Aaron J display at Pakenham. We were close to signing up to the Sahara at one stage. The 1.8m double shower in the ensuite and the vaulted ceiling in the kitchen were amazing.
Interestingly we recently went back to have a look at the M3tricon display at Berwick, which features our home, and we don't like it! Geoff - Decophile. Terrence Malick Re: Who was / is your favourite display home Builder? 16Oct 28, 2008 10:35 pm I liked the design and style of PD but the finish quality of H3nley.
The feeling wasn't mutual however with neither of those liking me or my block. Building Upside down house in Wantirna VIC Current Stage: Procrastination... it's just all too hard.... Blog: http://thereluctantbuilder.blogspot.com/ Re: Who was / is your favourite display home Builder? 17Oct 29, 2008 6:32 am When I first started looking at display homes (before I decided to go custom build) Met**con won me over with their houses. There was one house in particular that just blew me away at Point Cook...no longer a display home.
I must admit in recent times, most of the display homes I have seen have been so 'over stylised(sp)' that they all look very stuffy, cluttered and confusing...does anybody else think that? I like the Urbayne Edge at caroline springs like Jo does...but after a second look, some things are done on the cheap and when you are paying 500k for one of their homes, you should be expecting better quality in certain areas IMHO. For example...the kitchen has large pot drawers, I would have thought they would have good cabinet hardware to support them, but there were all stiff and hard to open. I know I go on about 'attention to detail' but sometimes I feel the decorators in display homes fill the house with so much irrelevant expensive, oversized furniture, that it is really hard to see the quality of what you are actually buying. It is obvious that big money is spent in decoarating and selling a life style which I dont have a problem with but I wish they would just declutter some of their displays. Mrs B Re: Who was / is your favourite display home Builder? 18Oct 29, 2008 7:28 am For me it was Henley - their houses were not over done
Next would be Carlisle Homes Display Homes had to be minimalist so I could walk in and imagine my own stuff in there. PDs houses - Felt it was over crowded M3tricon - Earlier their displays were good but nowadays they seem to head down PD path - too much clutter Regards beegee Re: Who was / is your favourite display home Builder? 20Oct 29, 2008 8:10 am I love the M-con display homes at Mernda. But saying that I'm a firm believer that if you need to fill the home with art deco furniture and the like to make it look good, then what does that say about the house.
