Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Who was / is your favourite display home Builder? 21Oct 29, 2008 8:14 am Like most other ppl, l like PD display, really nice, especially their gardens! The things they can do with such a small space, hard not to fall in love with it!
But l preferred $imonds cause i found them quite simple, what you saw was what you got, except a few extras, where PD, what your saw was 'additional' to what you get on most things, that was our experience when looking! l also like Orbit homes, and Dennis family, again cause l found them simple and not too much clutter Re: Who was / is your favourite display home Builder? 22Oct 29, 2008 8:54 am I think it depends on the individual house. In general I like most of the PD homes...but the Sainsbury display at Mernda is just awful!!
The Clendon Vale range at Mernda is very nicely done, as is M3tricon's. From my experience however, with all the big boys, that what u see is not what u get....packed highly with optional, expensive extras! Re: Who was / is your favourite display home Builder? 23Oct 29, 2008 9:11 am I dont know who's display it was but a week or so ago a friend of mine and I went sticky beaking in at the Laurima (sp?) estate and we saw the worst display ever in my opinion. The house iteself was good enough but inside everything was fake, the TV's were cardboard, the fridge was a grey wooden box with fake handles on the front, as was the dishwasher.
In one of the minor rooms I took a run up from the door way and jumped on what I thought was a bed... it wasnt... it was a pile of carboard boxes covered with a large dooner to make it look like a bed, fooled me. My friend ran from the house crying with laughter as I tried to put this foe-bed back together eventually running out the door crying with laughter myself. Re: Who was / is your favourite display home Builder? 24Oct 29, 2008 9:34 am A real TV : $2000
A real fridge : $800 A real dishwasher : $600 A real bed : $1500 Seeing Mikkyg and friend running from the house of cardboard with tears of laughter : Priceless! Re: Who was / is your favourite display home Builder? 25Oct 29, 2008 9:44 am I don't have any opinions about display homes, but one thing I've noticed about living here in Canada is that 'cluttered' is very North American - both the USA and Canada love their 'rustic' look - which tends to be cluttered/over complicated (brightly patterened wallpaper, every room a different colour, frills on furniture and trimming, stuff as much furniture as you can into a room etc.).
I'm not a big fan - give me simplicity any day! I miss the feature walls, sparse furniture, clean lines and space... After 2 false starts, a year living overseas, two more world trips and 3 years of uncertainty we are now starting the build process again - hopefully for real this time! Re: Who was / is your favourite display home Builder? 26Oct 29, 2008 10:55 am I find PD to be cluttered and over the top, quite a lot of M's are absolutely gorgeous especially the Nolan and Nelson at the new displays at Craigieburn but they are done up to the max. Carlisle are very nice too.
I find H3nley to be the best, they are well finished off and they have a very homely feel. A lot of what you see in their displays are standard inclusions so you get a more realistic idea of what you are getting at the end of the day (hmmm wonder who I am building with ) Re: Who was / is your favourite display home Builder? 27Oct 29, 2008 11:14 am It's been interesting getting quite a bit of feedback from the tradies about the actual quality of the non display homes that these builders build. I don't know if part of it is that they want to make me feel better , so they talk up PD ( and , if they were working on a M/con, or C/lisle one would talk THAT one up!!! ) but there certainly has been a strong theme in all of the various trades' opinions - regarding quality of materials, and general "build quality" when I've talked to them.
They all build stunning displays - that's what gets you in - but what's far more important to all of us is how they build "real" homes. Let's just say I'm happy...so far!!! Solidarity, not solidity.......The Lexicon of Life Re: Who was / is your favourite display home Builder? 28Oct 29, 2008 2:23 pm i walked into a pd display house at berwick and thought horrible interior decoration , then saw there same house in narren warren south and thought beautiful.
goes to shows how someones interior design can ruin a house and may put you off buying. you can get absorbed in the decor to easily , better to imagine without all the furniture ect as a house can look quite bland without them. Re: Who was / is your favourite display home Builder? 29Oct 29, 2008 8:46 pm I must agree that I do like PD homes, most of the time. But as others have said, I find that some of their houses have too much clutter!! It's hard to look at a house when you have fancy furniture and SO MUCH extras added onto a house. Its very hard for me to picture it as a standard house.
I must say that I do actually like Carlisle Homes' displays. One of the main thing that draws me to a house is actually the landscape, the external features. i'm a sucker for outdoor living so if their backyard is done up very well, it makes me like the house SO much more! Idiots are fun, that's why there is one in every village! - Dr. House - a really good builder... 30Oct 30, 2008 9:40 pm I'm baffled by the fact that some people spend more time checking out a 2nd hand $2000 car that a builder entrusted with your $$$$$$$ on a home. How do you measure "good" in a builder. Well I've found one - small unpretentious project builder, doesn't drive a merc or wear a 3 piece suite, giver very personal service, meets your needs, good value for money, keeps in contact throughout the course of the project, his subbies tell the big story - ask them. I have. Eastern suburbs of Melbourne only - mainly period style homes. Display in Narre Warren - FERNHAVEN HOMES - check em out. (and read their letters of thanks.) Re: Who was / is your favourite display home Builder? 31Oct 31, 2008 12:25 pm Hey guys I just thought I would give you a few WA websites to have a look at. I have to say as far as the websites go you guys have it covered over there. Our websites of the different companies are no match. Our display homes are quite different also.
Although the same in the respect that they are very decked out so that you feel the need to upgrade to what they have presented you with visually. I have been able to get some good ideas from your display home websites and maybe you might see a few different things by looking at ours. Generally speaking single storey homes are built by one company and double storey by another company. They don't mix the 2 so much. Or they call themselves a different company. I will also mention our prices, if they display any are much more than yours......1. we have bricks as our internal walls....and 2. Most things are included.....not upgrades that you have to add on later. They will take them off rather than add them on. You will see the website R.Attitudes is part of the #Jwh# group. They have quite a few different companies under the one banner building different homes for different dollars and clients. Anyway it might good for ideas. http://www.residentialattitudes.com.au/ ... allery.asp http://www.apghomes.com/ http://www.wbhomes.com.au/two-storey-homes.php#sixth http://www.lifestylehomes.com.au/ Re: Who was / is your favourite display home Builder? 33Oct 31, 2008 1:47 pm Hey Rachelle, no probs.....hope all your plans are going well...and colour selections. We are very close to signing with another builder just waiting on some drawings to come back. Re: Who was / is your favourite display home Builder? 34Oct 31, 2008 7:54 pm Mrs B I like the Urbayne at caroline springs like Jo does...but after a second look, some things are done on the cheap and when you are paying 500k for one of their homes, you should be expecting better quality in certain areas IMHO. Mrs B Precisely why we didn't go with Urb4yn3. We asked for a drive by list. Saw one of them in Maribyrnong which was built approx 1 to 2 years ago. It looked, hmmm, not as new as we expected it to be. DH was having 2nd thoughts then and we decided to give it a miss. Re: Who was / is your favourite display home Builder? 35Nov 01, 2008 9:25 am As someone who makes it a hobby of going around to see display homes, I can say that I like the ones that make me feel as if I am coming home and not just to a house.
PD have a distinct feel about them, which has been replicated in the Places group, and somewhat in the Claredon group. I considered the big M to be similar, but after seeing the recent display up at Caroline Springs, I felt they have slipped a bit, some of the houses seemed to be collections of furniture they took out of the older displays now closed down - the rooms were not coordinated at all. The Henley group have the best outside displays, some of the alfresco, patio and veranda areas literally stunning. If I had had enough space in my new home I would have tried to replicate them. Over the years the other builders have caught on that it is the interior decorating that can make the difference in the sales pitch and have put a lot more effort into their designs - most people are just not good at visualising what a final room will look like so a single bed or a table to indicate a bedroom or dinning room is just not good enough. Re: Who was / is your favourite display home Builder? 36Nov 01, 2008 10:14 am I like Franson Homes with there Salamanca and the Aspen Lodge being amongst my favourites but they are in a whole other league compared to Henley, M3tricon and PD etc.

Looke at them years ago, and thought they were very nice - gorgeous high ceilings, beautiful finishes.....we weren't so sure about the long indoor pond at the front door in one of them, though - thought we may possibly lose a child or two!!!! Yeah don't worry about the kids.... you've got spares. I think the pond was in the Aspen... that was awesome but it was also lots of..$$$$. There was a few Salamancas out at Hillside when I lived there. They are beuatiful homes but as I_B said.... a whole different league to standard builders. The facade is called Wave and it is a total ripoff of the Salamanca. (The salamanca is the one with the HT upstairs at the front and the curved roof?
