Slab to Brick Work

I need some help again. It has been morethan 4 weeks since the slab was poured and my builder says they dont know when the brick work will start ::sad::

. I dont think if this is normal, but also i dont know what are the typical time frames to start brick work after slab has been poured. The reason given to me was "there is a shortage of labour", but dont they have a schedule and so they know when the slab will be done and so they can plan for next phase. What annoyed me the most is "we dont know when the brick work will start, we will let you know as soon as the brickies are booked in". C'mon, are you that unorganised??? ::angry::

Hi Arayasam,

Can't really use us as an example as our slab was laid 20th Dec and brickies started 23rd January - which means there was the whole Christmas hols inbetween when builder was shut down. I would not be happy if brickies hadn't started 4 weeks after slab was laid and they still didn't have a definate time frame.

well Blond1e at least you had a reason, Christmas and new years. In my case they don't even have that reason, slab was on 11th April, Brickwork don't know when. Not sure how to tackle this, i wonder if this is just me or for everyone building with Aveling. I read such good reviews about Aveling homes and sales guy was very good, gave lot of confidence at that time, but now its all down the drain.

I'd phone your CLO and say its unacceptable that firstly its taken this long but mainly that there seems to be no project planning and you would like a meeting with someone to discuss the hold up. Don't think you'd go to buy 2 x ferrari's and be treated like this would you?

That's pretty poor that they don't know when someone will be booked in. We were in a similar position with our slab to frame turn around when ours was meant to be down first week in december, it was instead delayed due to a shortage of concreters. They missed the christmas break to let it cure and I had to wait 4 weeks for it to set and then the frame was delivered. Thankfully from there it sped up but to be honest, your best bet is to organise a meeting as Blond1e suggested so that you can get some answers. It shows that you won't just be a push over and actually care about your dream - sounds like your builder doesn't at the moment

well asked if i can arrange for a meeting, but no response. what a builder....tried to call no response...

okay got a reply finally today from another lady at their office, brick work will start hopefully on Monday.

Where are you building and who are you with? Our slab just went down, I think I'll cry if we need to wait 4 weeks for the brickwork. By the way, I thought the frames went up first, and then the brickwork? Complete and utter newbie so sorry if it's a stupid question.

We are building with Aveling Homes and in Piara Waters (RIVA Estate). Well the frames and brickwork go almost together, you would need bricks to HOLD the Door Frames. hope that answers your question. I had to fight and fight to get the answer out of the Builder.

Novice - in WA we don't have frames all our walls are brick

Exterior walls are double brick and internal walls single brick

Oh god, here you have to hire a private builder to build in double brick and it costs at least $50K more. arayasam's post makes much more sense now....

Sorry but comments like these still crack me up.

We are like another country over here in WA. It's like a theme park in Paris. Ridiculously hot in summer , too cold in winter, unbearably expensive all the time, and all the park staff are rude and uncaring ::lol::

There is a reason we are so far away, sometimes I wonder if it is for our own good.
