Re: WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF A NORTH FACING BACKYARD? 24Oct 28, 2008 11:59 am wakeboardandy look at where the sun rises.. that is east.. then turn to your left and that is North This is only true mid-season (the equinoxes 20/03/08 and 21/09/08)). At the summer solstice (21/12/08), the sun rises about 30 degrees south of east and at the winter solstice (20/06/08) it rises about 30 degrees north of east. Today, the run rose about 18% south of east. These numbers hold about true for most of Australia (Darwin being a notable exception). In the place I'm renting at the moment the washing line is facing east, making it difficult to dry clothes. Hey I never thought about clothes drying!! Good point. Our clothes lines are mounted onto the back wall where there are no windows and this is south faceing. But it is hot and dry most of year here so I don't think it will be a problem. Washed my sheets today and they have dried fine. Something to consider for those with wet cool climates though. I don't know if it'd be just as good to have the lounge at the back and maybe we can add large sky lights or a clearstorey? What are your thoughts? The warning is on the sticker on the door too.
