Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jan 07, 2023 6:25 pm We've been in our new home for 4 months. Received our first rates notice and rang the council to query the cost, they said a standard house uses around 500 litres a day ours was on par for 1000 litres. We checked the water meter box and this is what we found! It's full of water, we have waited two days to see if this would go down and it hasn't. We took a picture with our neighbours to compare. Would this be covered under the 12-month maintenance? we have the number of the plumber and will ring first thing Monday but just not sure where we stand with our new build. This pipe would have been installedby the builder. Under the ‘Standard Domestic Building Contracts’ the builder is required to build a house that is ‘suitable for purpose’. That is it complies with the building codes and regulations and will not suffer structural damage or have any other major defect. If you suffer a problem you can go back to the builder under the contract. In effect you have an Implied Guarantee. If the defect was as a result of his construction or the materials they supplied, the builder is liable to remedy as long as the time since the contract was completed is ‘Reasonable’.(https://anewhouse.com.au/2014/07/new-ho ... arranties/) this might be a better way of dealing with the problem than the 'Builders Warranty' which normally has a period of 2 or 3 months! Re: Water Meter Issue 3Jan 18, 2023 6:35 am Should be something they come out ASAP to rectify, looking at the neighbors it would appear yours has a leak as I would expect theirs also to be filled if it was seeping in after a rainy day. Defiantly would be going to builder. Hi all, We're curring working on our outdoor and have some questions in relation to screed. I've tried to find information online, without success.
