We started our house build (NSW) early last year in 2021. Constructions has been very slow, and there has been several delays. Now the house is about to finish still 2 -3 months away I assume for handover. Builder is now asking for another $200K approx on top of contracted price.
We did not make any changes, and added any extra items. There were few items for which we accepted the variance but that was less than $25K
Appreciate if someone can guide us to right direction what can we do. We are in dire situation, it is huge amount and Bank won’t lend us any extra money

U reckon Theyre probably charging everyone the max increase to get back on track regardless of what the actuaL cost is. Its unlikley you will be able to geta an honest break down of what the increase is for. Your options are outlined in the contract. you will have various price increase clauses to a % of the value of the contract. You pay or the contract is cancelled and youre left with the work as is. You can speak with a construction lawyer and you may have some wiggle room to negotiate on the price (but unlikley) and you will be back to pay or cancel the contract. These are unprecedented times. Generally builder has to set out the claim, the reasons for claim, how it is calculated and under which contract clause it should be paid. Most of the work is incomplete.
