Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Oct 03, 2022 10:45 am Some items to note: build is in outer east Melbourne, North is to bottom left of attached floorplan. Main house is a gable roof design (gable ends on the short sides obviously). Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ I would appreciate your input on the roof over my deck area and whether there is a way we can incorporate it in the overall house design. My original plan I now don't think will work but I am struggling to come up with a good solution. I want to cover the deck in a way that will still allow some winter sun to infiltrate the windows/doors on that wall. I've looked at doing a louvre style roof (waaaayyyy too expensive and unreliable). I considered doing a flat roof that angled down from the driveway end towards the rear of the property (so would allow north sun in but sort of block western sun in the afternoon in summer) but now I'm not so sure about this (not sure we could get enough angle to make it worthwhile being we'd have to make it fit under the eaves). The builder originally sent an idea from a previous build with a lovely gable design coming off the side of the house (so gable end was furthest from the house) but I'm not a fan of this design because the deck is right on the boundary which means the only ones who'll ever see that lovely gable end is the neighbours in their yard they never use. Another thought I had was to use a gable roof running the other way (parallel to the main house roof so when you look from the front of the property it would kind of look like ^^) but wonder if this would look silly. Have you any ideas or thoughts? Anything you've done previously? Thanks! 6 611 I want to build a decking to the drawn shape outlined in black. They worked perfectly as we have bluestone in the area where we wanted to build so digging down was not… 8 10286 ![]() |
