Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Sep 11, 2022 9:38 pm Hi all, Just how durable is hebel power floor? I'm currently building and it's just been installed, i'm concerned that if i drop something heavy on it it'll go through the hebel. Also, there is at least one panel with a hairline crack on it (only on the top), should this be of concern? can it be repaired? Cheers. Hi Firstbuild22 I understand what you are saying as when I was building my own home in 2018/2019 we had cracks and holes that opened up during the rough in stage. After a lot of research I believe that this was caused by a couple of things, the main one being too much deflection in the floor joists which were spaced at 450mm and incorrect placement of expansion joints. We do a lot of Hebel on our new builds but we only use it with joists spaced at 300mm and we now have a really good crew who know how to install it properly ( with the correct amount of glue and appropriate expansion joints) Having said that we will still only use Hebel Powerfloor with a layer of either yellow tongue or red tongue to protect it from damage from impacts ( see photos). For minor cracks they supply an extremely strong glue which does a fantastic job of patching. If you have some spare money in your budget ask your builder if they will consider laying some yellowtongue over the top. It is a fantastic upgrade. Re: Durability of hebel power floor 3Sep 12, 2022 9:02 am Hi firstbuild22 Welcome to the forum There is enough info on the internet here is aerated concrete prone to cracking Unlike insitu poured concrete improving strength and durability is covered in AS3600 Concrete structures the other is a masonry product refer to AS3700 where flooring isn't covered (humour) Designer,Engineer (Civil,Const & Envir),Builder,Concrete & Masonry Contract.Struct Repairs Re: Durability of hebel power floor 4Sep 12, 2022 10:55 am Cheers guys for the response. Unfortunately we're going through a volume builder and the extra chipboard option has already been declined at sales stage, the 1st floor frame is already up. Most of the area will be carpeted, I may look at adding extra chipboard in future under the carpet if it causes too much issue. @Ashington Homes, have you had any customer complaints after handover regarding cracking/holes due to normal use? I suspect it should be able to handle things like kids jumping off bunk beds? Re: Durability of hebel power floor 5Sep 12, 2022 11:40 am firstbuild22 Cheers guys for the response. I suspect it should be able to handle things like kids jumping off bunk beds? You can do it after handover before you put the carpet down. It's a bit more work cutting in around walls and doors but definitely doable. We have never done Hebel on it's own for clients as we would be uncomfortable from a warranty perspective. We would hate to have to come back and rectify any damage. Having said that, this is only our personal opinion. Quite a few people use Hebel as a floor and have no problems so you will probably be okay if your flooring has been installed correctly. If you have issues or questions I can put you in touch with an engineer from CSR, just PM me and I will send you the number cheers Simeon Architectural Homes & Duplexes - specialising in custom designing homes to your budget Get a Free Onsite Consultation Today or send a PM for information, questions or advice. Re: Durability of hebel power floor 9Sep 12, 2022 5:46 pm alexp79 Wow, 300 mm spacing between joists? Such a waste of timber! Are you using same spacing for metal frame joists? Alex That is a really interesting point as with steel floor joists the engineers have designed a really strange system that doesnt make sense and when I get a minute I need to ask. So roughly half the floor is at 300mm spacing, some if 400mm and some looks 600mm. I am really not sure how they calculate it Maybe tomorrow if I remember I will take some photos Architectural Homes & Duplexes - specialising in custom designing homes to your budget Get a Free Onsite Consultation Today or send a PM for information, questions or advice. Re: Durability of hebel power floor 10Sep 12, 2022 6:50 pm hi, have repaired Hebel Powerfloor from cracking/damage at lift foyer location in a house and in hallway location at high rise accomodation (commercial) could be damage at construction phase. tool boxes, furniture dollys, heavy items not familiar with width of joists, felt the end bearing is not adequate, could be 20mm had to bolt on additional supports. Re: Durability of hebel power floor 11Jan 04, 2023 4:08 pm Hi, We have a Hebel power floor installed in Perth and it is getting damaged during construction. We are thinking of requesting the builder to install plywood on top of the floor. Is the plywood just floating or is it screwed or glued to the Hebel Floor? Thanks Adam. What type of damage are you getting? We have a few bits break off ours at the edges near the stairs but I haven't seen anything else. Hi Adam Welcome to the forum Unfortunately the company CSR doesn't provide impact resistant test results nor mechanical engineering properties on their hebel products ( not that I can find anywhere)? It has been know to crack if a tradesman accidentally drops a gympie hammer or heavy object onto a floor panel If you are in Perth why didn't your builder consider a 1c concrete slab on steel trusses... which would have been more robust cheers Chris Designer,Engineer (Civil,Const & Envir),Builder,Concrete & Masonry Contract.Struct Repairs Re: Durability of hebel power floor 14Jan 04, 2023 8:17 pm adamv Hi, We have a Hebel power floor installed in Perth and it is getting damaged during construction. If all you are after is a temporary protection for the Hebel PowerFloor, screwing the 8mm or 12mm plywood to it should do the job. Alternatively, you can also use the Hebel PowerFloor glue to touch up chipped spots. Would also like an opinion from anyone that has used xcem over hebel for floors. Thanks 1 14293 I was looking at different options for a fence for my build and Hebel PowerFence seemed like a good option (one of the criteria was a solid wall look). However, I don't… 0 5919 1 6659 |
