Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Aug 25, 2022 3:06 pm Hey All! (Hope this is the right thread). We're over 1.5 years from handover now and it's definitely been a rough year. However, our builder has claimed a seemingly crazy amount of days (including public holidays?? I would assume that those should be factored into the estimate) and I wanted to check if these are disproportionate as they are delaying us like crazy. Some days claimed include Adverse weather, Material delays, Public holidays, COVID industry shutdown. Altogether about 3 months. I am in Northwest Sydney Thank you! We have such a shortage of labour at the moment. It has been a minor issue for the last few months but in the last 3-4 weeks for some reason it has gotten worse. It is such a battle getting scaffold ( my personal project has been on hold for a month now, got part scaffold delivered Monday and then I got screamed at soup nazi style yesterday when I politely asked why it wasnt being installed as promised after waiting weeks), concreters are nearly impossible to find, we have brick layers who promise day after day that they are on their way and never show up. We spend most of our days phoning around looking for concretors, brick layers and scaffolders. We even have 4 bins that have needed to be picked up for 3 weeks but there aren't enough truck drivers. It is a tough time to be a builder right now. Having said that, the best thing we can do is to try and keep our clients updated every couple of days. See if you can ask your SS just to keep you more informed otherwise give Mark Scully a call.
