Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Aug 21, 2022 9:31 pm Hi All, After the render, I noticed exposed slab edges. Searching the forums, it seems exposed slab edges are normal and useful for termite management. I'm not sure, as I'm trying to find more information within VBA website. It is unsightly. Is there a possibility to make it look neater or hide it when it comes to landscaping? Thanks. You will need to get onto the external ground preparation, paving, etc ASAP or void your warranty. Then you have hydrostatic pressure of wet concrete blow out building plastic below formwork edge. I have enclosed a photo from frame inspection report. I assume it will be my builder responsibility to clean up the footing and smooth it out for the renders to continue rendering. Re: Exposed Slab Edge 6Aug 26, 2022 2:25 pm Don't be surprised if your builder tells you to raise the ground level to cover the bulging concrete footings and put a retaining wall on the boundary at your expense. Best to check your site plan and levels before you talk to the builder. I would have trimmed the concrete after the initial set, the fact that they haven't means the GL is to be raised... let members know how you go? my2c Designer,Engineer (Civil,Const & Envir),Builder,Concrete & Masonry Contract.Struct Repairs Re: Exposed Slab Edge 7Aug 26, 2022 5:48 pm I had a similar issue where the slab edges came out past the brickwork. It was noted from my private inspector to be rectified. My builder jackhammered the overhanging concrete bits. So it's all neat and tidy now (as far as I can tell) Generally you don’t need supporting piers/blocks under garage/non-habitable floating GROUND slab (That has no load bearing structures over) if it has good soil bearing… 2 11743 Hi Courtney The mitred edges are glued up with epoxy so those little holes and gaps are areas that weren't filled correctly. Silicone is the wrong product to fill them… 2 23577 ![]() You need to refer back to the structural engineering footings and slab design for edge beams depth. The depth on reactive clay doesn’t necessarily depend only on bearing… 1 11198 |
