Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jul 26, 2022 10:54 am Hi everyone Hoping someone might be able to give me some more background on how builders operate with their license arrangements. I'm in NSW Had a few chats with an independent builder around my area who has a number of license registrations. For example, there is a license registered in their personal name plus one company name (operating name on their business card), which clearly state "only for works not requiring insurance under the home building compensation fund". They also then have another license, which does not have any restrictions listed when checking the registration, which is under a different company name. Is the above a normal practice or is this unusual? Assuming if you entered into a contract with them, the contract would need to specify the correct license/registered entity that holds the license without restrictions attached? Thanks Re: Builder with multiple license registrations - unusual? 2Jul 28, 2022 9:27 am If they can't provide an insurance certifvate for the work, find another builder. Could be many reasons for having multiple registered entities, worst case their phoenix construction companies that'll be shut down at the first sign of trouble. Google that term, been a lot of media reports about it. Not sure about the licence being transferable, I think they can be listed as a Supervisor on the other entity, probably best to speak with Fair Trading. I would ask the builder why the operating licence has the restriction. Why isn't Darbecca advising you? You could go through the whole process and find that VBA merely reprimands the builder.
