You normally use the same margin all the way around the frame. They have probably done it the way they have so the piece across the head pushes against the ceiling rather than have a small gap that is difficult to paint. It looks odd but a gap would also not look so great. They could have used a wider architrave that allowed them to maintain the same margin and still meet the ceiling.
