Only takes around 40 minutes to Southern Cross, and its never crowded
So from Mernda you have to drive across to get the Wallan train one station further down than Wallan?..... I'm not saying anything..... Just laughing....

Terrence Malick Re: Land in Doreen, Melbourne? 122Nov 06, 2008 8:28 am Lostris I've heared that Yan Yean Rd can get super busy in the morning peak, can anyone living there now confirm? Watsonia station would be good, but there are so many cars that get broken into there. Yep I was a victim of car theft at that station, maybe greensborough station could be a better way to go. Re: Land in Doreen, Melbourne? 123Nov 06, 2008 8:49 am Yan Yean Road is much better than Plenty Road. I live in South Morang and work in Greensborough. I always use Yan Yean Road, saves me about 10 minutes time. Yan Yean sometimes can get banked back, but it moves pretty quickly still. Donnybrook would be a good idea.. and yes it may be same time to get to city from mernda/doreen and wallan.. but how far do you have to travel to go to a shopping centre?? mernda/doreen it is only 10min drive to westfield... Wallan you would be looking at least about 30mins and I couldn't live more than 10mins from a JB Hifi... I used to live close to Knox and Eastland... and I hardly went there. I'll take the drive to Broady JB- HiFi for 50k less on my mortgage and a third of an acre. Seriously, I actually think no train line is pretty much the only drawback of Mernda/Doreen. Apart from that the area is perfect. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. OTHER OPTIONS Epping station - during peak 20 minutes away, then another 50 minutes on a crowded train Watsonia station - during peak 25-30 minutes away, then another 35 minutes on a crowded train btw, there is a fair driving distance between Donnybrook and Wallan.. Well for me I actually never want to live near a train station again after my last house. I lived in croydon within 200m of the train station and got robbed 3 times in one week. I moved to Kilsyth within the next week after that and happy if I ever want to use a train to drive to one. But it has been about 4 years since I last caught a train and don't plan on using one anytime soon.. I hate public transport, so much more comfy in my territory!! I'm laughing that the best option is my train anyway.... and I will just be able to park at Wallan station, hop on the train and relax... while the Mernda people are still driving..... One thing I am jealous of that Wallan has and Doreen doesn't is the dolly parton hill right on the hume... It is my favourite hill ever!! Terrence Malick Re: Land in Doreen, Melbourne? 133Nov 06, 2008 12:23 pm Off the topic.... but I just wanted to add ( after my last post ) that the only reasons behind us crossing several land options off our list were either related to personal circumstances, finances, current availability etc....not because we have found any problems with the land or those selling it. Just wanted to clarify that!
Also, Watsonia Station is generally full by just after 7....! Greensborough will be a nightmare soon with the proposed re - development. And the State Gov. don't have plans for an extension of the Epping Line to Mernda until 2027! Re: Land in Doreen, Melbourne? 134Nov 09, 2008 3:42 pm hi
I just found this site with people building in Laurimar. We have brought a block in the Yangoora Wells section but land not released till next month. Anybody else building in this same area??? Re: Land in Doreen, Melbourne? 135Nov 09, 2008 5:10 pm Not sure if this has been mentioned already but there will be a train line out to South morang by 2021 .. sooner if the Libs get in and live up to their promises for a change.
Personally I love living and working outside the city, half the mortgage, twice the block size, 3 mins to work, wife's work, schools and shops, and the smell of grass and cow poo in the morning Re: Land in Doreen, Melbourne? 136Nov 09, 2008 9:20 pm nazko14 hi I just found this site with people building in Laurimar. I'm in the Harrisons View section just down the hill from where the park wil be. Re: Land in Doreen, Melbourne? 137Nov 10, 2008 6:50 am Hi,
Just wondering if you know if any government kindergardens are going to be opened in Laurimer?? My son doesnt go for another 2 years but I want to plan ahead. I went to the Laurimer information centre yesterday but the lady I spoke 2 didnt seem to know much apart from the childcare centre already opened Re: Land in Doreen, Melbourne? 138Nov 10, 2008 9:06 am nazko14 Hi, Just wondering if you know if any government kindergardens are going to be opened in Laurimer?? It is also going to be the head office for maternal health for city of whittlesea so I assume it would be goverment run. Re: Land in Doreen, Melbourne? 139Dec 20, 2008 8:20 pm Well after thinking they need to hurry up with the school.. it looks like it will be opened come end of next month as planned... they certainly have been moving quickly over the last month...
Anyway here is pictures taken today of Laurimar Primary School... http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff285/agardner5/IMGP2776.jpg http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff285/agardner5/IMGP2777.jpg http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff285/agardner5/IMGP2778.jpg Re: Land in Doreen, Melbourne? 140Dec 20, 2008 10:14 pm Hi Wakeboardandy,
How nice was it in Doreen today?? We did the same drive by the school as you did - it's looking better. I figure they'll only have part of it opened for Term 1 - the area closest to F.H. Rd still looks a way off though. Oh, and I wish they'd get a hurry on with those shops! Not much in this responce. My suggestion is, what are you looking to build and why. This will all be impacted by the local councils planning scheme. Familiarise yourself… 6 5840 Hi All, We have recently purchased a sloping block (3.5m fall building envelope, 6m overall). Just wondering if you know of any good builders that you would recommend for… 0 1752 I do enjoy the drama:-D In his latest two videos he has started bringing security guards to site, I am waiting for the punch on to begin lol 6 45498 |
