Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Land in Doreen, Melbourne? 141Dec 20, 2008 10:27 pm yeah they always said only part would open for term 1.. I think by middle of the year the sports centre and other area should be open...
Hopefully safeway (actually will probably be woolworths now) and the shops will be open by then... and hopefully we will be moving in there about that time!! Re: Land in Doreen, Melbourne? 143Dec 21, 2008 7:45 am We almost bought land at Laurimar in the very first release - it was extremely cheap, and the blocks were huge. We'd always wanted to live around Yarrambat and the estate looked fantastic. Our eldest was in primary school at the time and what put us off was the total lack of any facilities at all. We're now very thankful we didn't do it, since the primary school is only just about to open - and our kids are 21, 16 and 13.
It's certainly a thriving area now, and will be great for families with young children. Our experience shows you have to really look at what your needs are now and in the future, and whether an area is going to accommodate them. We traded off a bigger house for being within walking distance of both primary and secondary schools, plus parks, sports facilities and three shopping centres. Those things are important when both parents work and your kids have to get themselves places. Public transport in this area still sucks - lucky one of my kids drives and the others are old enough to deal with 40-minute waits between buses. Re: Land in Doreen, Melbourne? 144Apr 06, 2009 9:28 pm I see the posts on this topic are a few months old... however I just wanted to add that my husband and I just bought a block of land in stage 10 of Mitchell's Run, love our block. We're right near where the bridge is being built, to later this year connect the estate through to Plenty Road. Re: Land in Doreen, Melbourne? 145Apr 07, 2009 9:48 am Hi aaron4erin, Great spot, congrats on your land. Is it titled/released yet? You'll be just around the corner from Wakeboardandy. The bridge to Plenty Rd will come in very handy I think. I don't believe in excess - success is to give. Paul David Hewson Re: Land in Doreen, Melbourne? 146Apr 07, 2009 9:58 am Hey Grace, thanks, the land was intially meant to be titled June/July this year, now it's been pushed back to August. The stage behind us have just titled, so we should see some slabs go down shortly, and maybe even a back fence going up for us! Sounds like we've got a few neighbours already! Very exciting. Our block is on the boarder to Laurimar, so one boundary fence is already up, and it appears a few of the Laurimar houses are near lock up stage. I'm sure they'll love to live through the process of builders coming back yet again to start on our place next door. Cheers Re: Land in Doreen, Melbourne? 147Apr 07, 2009 10:17 am We looked at land around that spot about 18months ago ( Trawalla?/Targhee? ) I forget what stage that was, but we couldn't get the size we wanted that wasn't on a corner at the time we were looking, and they couldn't tell us when the next stage would be released. I love it in there though and I think you'll be very happy. How big is your block?? I don't believe in excess - success is to give. Paul David Hewson Re: Land in Doreen, Melbourne? 148Apr 07, 2009 10:44 am Our block is 729m2, we're pretty happy with it, it faces paddocks at the moment, and there is a 25m clearance on the opposite side of the road that they cannot build on if there are future estates going in the future, so we'll always be looking at either paddocks, or parklands etc.

This will all be impacted by the local councils planning scheme. Familiarise yourself… 6 5872 Hi All, We have recently purchased a sloping block (3.5m fall building envelope, 6m overall). Just wondering if you know of any good builders that you would recommend for… 0 1776 I do enjoy the drama:-D In his latest two videos he has started bringing security guards to site, I am waiting for the punch on to begin lol 6 45568 |
