Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 25, 2022 4:56 pm Hi guys, Did anyone experienced any projects delays due to delays in the supply of windows and doors. My builder is saying that their suppliers will take 4 months to deliver after the order. Is it the case with you as well? or Do you know any good and reputable windows and doors supplier who can supply within 10 weeks time? Looking forward to hear some advises. Tnx - Vin Re: WINDOWS & DOORS DELAYS 2Mar 25, 2022 5:06 pm My site supervisor told me that the major delay on my build at the moment is windows. It's currently around a 2 month wait. My frames will start going up next week, they will do as much as they can after frames (roof, etc) and then stop and put my build in hold if windows aren't in by then. So yeah, you're not the only one. Re: WINDOWS & DOORS DELAYS 3Mar 27, 2022 11:50 am I don't understand why builders don't adjust their timelines to suit the delays. Order earlier? Not really a constructive comment I know, but makes me feel like it's not acceptable, just poor planning. Re: WINDOWS & DOORS DELAYS 4Mar 27, 2022 1:22 pm The builder is not in control of the window lead time. It's not a matter of poor planning, it is inadequate response to unanticipated demand, coupled with limited labour. We have our windows made overseas and our lead time is a predictable10-12 weeks, normally 8 weeks. They said they would be ordering materials whilst my permit has been held. So from October to late number they could have ordered my windows. Permit was issued to me late November but because they weren't starting any more build for the rest of the year, I had a start date for Feb 2. Surely you would think if they would have ordered the windows in October/November then they'd be here by now??? I reckon they ordered it when site was cut, not late last year. But anyway. It's all good. I understand the whole industry is under the pump worldwide. Re: WINDOWS & DOORS DELAYS 6Mar 27, 2022 3:56 pm Yeah, I acknowledge that their are delays, but not unforeseen delays. As long as you whole build schedule does not blow out with I wouldnt be concerned either. Many builders would claim to have a good relationship with their suppliers so should know at all times the apparent delays. I placed an order for 65k of frames in Nov. My slot comes up in April! But I know my windows wants 8 weeks, timber extras 4 weeks. Plasterboard 4 weeks. So get in early. Re: WINDOWS & DOORS DELAYS 7Mar 28, 2022 12:11 pm The construction at my joint has just started and they gonna pour the slab within 2 weeks time. I've had my builder checked the windows supply at the start of the Feb and the delivery time was mid of May. But unfortunately, they didn't place the order until the today and now he is saying that the delivery time would be end of July which will push the whole project down by 2-3 months. Its a very lethargic approach. or being a business, the builder would like to order the window when they see the money circulating. I have a tool that i have created that does this. Message me with your details and I will send it to you. 5 21665 Just to makea point about this, an approach that some people have found sucessful in negotiating these rises down, Is to provide some workings to the builder, specifying… 4 65195 In fairness nobody gave a crap about the ACCC and the gag clauses continued in the pro forma templates of a few other builders after the ACCC took on Wisdom, and more… 20 57663 |
