To pack, or not to pack.

Our build has had it's downstairs complete, and is ready for framing upstairs.

I drove past after they put the boards down for the upstairs floor and noticed the cement sheet packing between the beam and the plates. Is the packing something to be concerned about (which I assume is there because the beam underneath is potentially crooked)?

Packing to straighten or level things up is common building practice, nothings perfectly straight or even in thickness. The beam will more than likely be straight its probably the timber on top that has varying thickness but the packing should be done better than whats in the photo

They could have shown a little pride in their work and used proper packers.

This is why tradies cant be left alone to supervise their own work.

Since we have a private inspector having our back during the build, I'm happy to let the build run its course. But when I see something like that, I'll ask the question to the builder. I don't disagree with the need to remediate things, but when it looks like they've done a 'that's good enough' type job, it's concerning as the customer. It then makes me wonder what other 'that's good enough' things they've done.
