Tiles used: 450mm x 450mm floor and walls - same manufacturer - different colours floor grount spacing: 3 mm wall grout spacing: 1.5 mm bathroom size 3560mm x 1960mm feature wall & floor - same tiles - other 3 walls different colour - same tile dimensions. Paid extra for full height tiling and selecting premium tiles so they are square. I was told there will be a bit of gap because of 1.5mm vs 3 mm spacers. understandable - but my issue is - they have not even tried to line up. Tiling supervisor said they are 2 different products so they will never line up. Builder is a very reputed builder in Sydney and hunter region, tiler is also a local reputed tiling company (&expensive). I am not going to name bash them here, I want them to fix the issue. Did not even try to line up the cabinet and vanityLike ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ I am no expert but this is not professional levelLike ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Thanks in advance Re: TILING ISSUE - floor and wall tile grout line far apart 2Feb 21, 2022 4:57 pm This is standard tiling setouts, Floor Setouts are done to the drain and PC items as the walls are done to fixtures, niches and windows. If you require Line Matching tile lines than you need to specify this and look at paying a lot extra due to time taken and wastage of tiles. Floors have 3mm spacing and walls 1.5mm so even with same tile they wont line up unless you use 3mm spacing all over which is wide for the walls. I know the builder and the Tile company in this photo and it is also listed on the Tile Selection Paperwork that you would have signed at colour selection stage. Fair trading will not see this as an issue. Jump on the Builders Website and have a look at the tiling in the displays on Virtual Tour and you will see the same as you have taken photos of the tile setout. Re: TILING ISSUE - floor and wall tile grout line far apart 4Feb 23, 2022 5:37 am CTS Apart from looking awful, this is one small area which highlights the difference between project home and custom home quality, and it's not something most people will think about until it happens to you. I am in charge of finishes in our business and there is no way I would ever accept that tile set out. I was out at Box Hill last year and had a good look at the quality of the display homes by your builder ( I was interested as their current Managing Director used to work for me in a previous life) and I was appalled at how far their standards have dropped in the last 10 years. I have posted some photos of 2 recent bathrooms we have completed to show you how the tiles should be laid. Ignore the curved mirrors, they are being replaced. Edit: having technical issues and cant load the photos of the 2nd bathroom. will try later Cheers Simeon Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Architectural Homes & Duplexes - specialising in custom designing homes to your budget Get a Free Onsite Consultation Today or send a PM for information, questions or advice. Re: TILING ISSUE - floor and wall tile grout line far apart 5Feb 24, 2022 8:58 am So the tiling company and the builder has decided not to rectify this, and have said it meets the standard. I would have expected a well known builder and tiling company would not have issues rectifying an ugly job. Now what are my options ? Re: TILING ISSUE - floor and wall tile grout line far apart 6Feb 24, 2022 10:06 am CTS Splashes gave you the correct answer. You can never have the grout lines matching as you have different grout widths. If you had the first line matching the next would be out 1.5mm the next 3mm and so on. It looks terrible as you pick the variation strait away. Whenever there is a difference in tile size or grout width the best option is to stagger the joints as they have done. In Simeon's example it's the same tile and grout width on the floor and wall so absolutely you can and should match the joints but in your case that is the standard way to lay the tiles. I don't know if the pictures are taken before grouting but having grout the same colour as the tiles will help the joints to disappear rather than stand out like a feature. Get a grout that matches each tile colour and you won't notice that the lines don't match. Our tiler did a fantastic job on the walls and centred the tiles on each wall, they look awesome. The grout lines don't match the floor because they are a different tile, but it looks fantastic. Thanks splashers, that makes sense. The waterproofing guy used this Davco product, I will raise the issue with builder and hopefully get resolved with him - if not… 2 12927 Hi All.
