Perhaps, they are paying more for the trades to get their job done while volume builders waiting for the tradies to do the work in the normal rate. We went with a volume builder as we thought they would manage their projects and be more organised in the pandemic time which turned out quite the opposite. We’ve been waiting 5 weeks for a bricklayer and have had a few extension letters from the builder about the same. Hi TrickyrickyDoo Unfortunately it is easier to find a unicorn than a bricklayer in Sydney at the moment! I have 800 bricks left to lay ( 2 days work) and I have phoned around 30 bricklayers over the last 2 weeks, My guy had to leave to go to another job but promised he would be back and now tells me he cant come. I desperately need these laid so I can drop scaffold. I finally found someone this morning but I am paying around $2.50 per brick. Another job we have 3,000 and same story but we ended up paying $3 a brick. Most crews are booked out till next year. It is simply insane at the moment. I have even resorted to putting ads on air tasker. Luckily most of our current builds are Hebel otherwise I would be finding a new career. I wish your builder the best of luck finding a crew.
