Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Knock down rebuild - where to live? 21Apr 03, 2022 10:01 am The only reason i got was "dont want to risk any major issues while doing the build of the front house" I completely understand the risks and issues associated with a build and respect those elements but in the case where my granny flat will be completely blocked off from the main construction area and i won't ever have to access the building site to access my granny flat, i don't understand why it cant be done besides them not wanting to bother with the process of trying to be able to do this. After all ive had the flat built while living in my front house with no major issues and now hearing more and more people being able to live in the rear of their homes and having a house built infront makes it harder to justify finding a rental property at $400 a week while i have a perfectly good home to live in while constructing. Re: Knock down rebuild - where to live? 22Apr 03, 2022 3:26 pm I feel for you, but I think I wouldn’t settle on a builder unless they are willing to grant your reasonable request because if they are going to be this inflexible now, it’s likely that will continue throughout the build. Having said that, flexibility costs. If you’re going for a cookie cutter off the rack builder, then, as a rule, you’re not paying the ‘creativity or flexibility’ premium. Still if you’re not paying rent during the build, maybe you can put a little more into the build? Re: Knock down rebuild - where to live? 23Sep 25, 2023 7:20 am simongrunwald Hey guys, I'm looking to do a knockdown rebuild very soon and im just preparing where to live during the building process. My main question is. - I have a completed granny flat on my property that will be out of the way of the actual area of construction. Would there be an option for me to live there during the construction period? I have even come up with the idea I could actually make an access point in my neighbor's fence so I can leave the area without having to go near the construction area. If i was able to get all the relevant connections made to keep the flat up and running and avoid the construction site would this be possible? Rather than me having to move and pay for another property for the duration? If anyone can guide me it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Simon. Hi Simon, We are also investigating this idea. We’ve been told by a few builders that they would be willing to do it as long as it is fenced off and we don’t try and access the build site area when ever we like. They said there will be cameras put up etc. That’s all fine by us. So there are definitely some builders happy to take on the ‘risk’ if the details are all specified in the contract. The only issue we are trying to work out now is temporary power to the granny flat and how that would work re: space required for temporary power pole…. Oh, and plumbing. Hah. Best of luck with your journey! We've had the offer of a short term tenant whilst waiting for CDC/DA home approval and demolition for our knock down rebuild. It would achieve a pretty low rent as it's… 0 13859 Hi I live in a 100yr old semi and my neighbour added an additional floor last yr and our architect has advised that we can knock down our semi and build a free-standing… 0 37836 5 6875 |
