Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Home Building Companies 2Nov 13, 2021 10:36 pm We have purchased a block by the water in Cleveland Brisbane and are looking to build. Metricon says expect a house to take 14 months to complete. Other companies like Clarendon, Domaine, Coral and Planation say 12 months. I think 14 months is probably more realistic. My son has warned me to watch out with building a new home. He is involved in the construction industry by way of design and estimation. Due to Covid caused bottle necks and supply line slow downs the price of construction material like timber, steel, PVC has doubled and tripled over the past year. This also applies to others things used in home building. This is leading to building companies being squeezed between rising material costs and customers ability to pay for homes once a contract has Been signed. I think many poorly run building companies are going to bite the dust. As you have probably just heard Privium Homes have just shutdown $28 M dollars worth of construction in Queensland. Hard to imagine the suffering and financial angst caused by that. We do not want to end up with a half built home, financial loss and a building company that is in financial trouble. Wondering what others in our position make of the current situation with the reliability and viability of Queensland builders or the bigger national home builders in this crazy environment of today? Starting to get very nervous about who we build with and what precautions we can take to avoid financial loss and construction delays. Please let me know your thoughts on this. You forgot to mention inflation, rising unemployment and interest rates. OT, I suspect the PM is finding it hard to sleep at night with the looming election. kungpo747 Starting to get very nervous about who we build with and what precautions we can take to avoid financial loss and construction delays. Please let me know your thoughts on this. Rob Before you get to the "Who do we build with Stage?" I highly recommend that you finalise your independent 3D AEC design, data/proofs, costs with forecasts, etc, etc (1st Stage) BTW you have full control at the 1st stage after you sign the contract and move to the 2nd stage the Builder takes over by virtue of the contact/build... A word of warning If the builder is not interested in building to the 1st Stage documentation, then walk away and find someone else hth Designer,Engineer (Civil,Const & Envir),Builder,Concrete & Masonry Contract.Struct Repairs We already paid for somfy motors for the blinds.
