Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Oct 22, 2021 5:04 pm Hi all I have an old 1.5 acre house in Templestowe (Melbourne). I'm in the very early stages of thinking whether we should renovate vs knockdown rebuild vs just sell and buy an established home. Does anyone recommend any particular architects or builders in Melbourne specialising in Acre lots? Anything I should know before speaking to them? Thanks for the advice in advance Re: Knockdown Rebuild Acre Inner Melbourne 2Oct 22, 2021 5:38 pm Sitting on a gold mine there. Unless the home has some sort of heritage charm worth saving, I'd be knocking it down and building something worthy of such a blue ribbon block. Kudos to you for not giving in to developers. Thank you. It was built in the 1970s but no heritage charm. It's probably the worst house on my street by far, all the others are super modern mansions. Any experience in knockdown + rebuilding acre homes? Based on what I read it'll cost minimum 2M+ build cost. Re: Knockdown Rebuild Acre Inner Melbourne 4Oct 22, 2021 8:21 pm If you're on a fairly tight budget then you're in a bit of a predicament. With the suburb and size of the block you can't really build a budget home through a volume builder as it won't do the block justice and won't be desirable with the demographic in the area. If you're not attached to the block in any meaningful way you could just sell up and find something that's more to your liking. You'll have no problem getting a good price for it from a developer. Sorry I don't really have any recommendations for builders In that particular area at that price point. Maybe try Carter Grange? Re: Knockdown Rebuild Acre Inner Melbourne 5Oct 22, 2021 8:24 pm Good advice, I completely agree. My dream is to build on the block though but just reading some things online like WOLF who suggests $5000+ per sqm is too much at the moment for my budget. Do you know any high end architects or builders with good acre experience I can maybe chat to and see what they think? if the original house is in good condition most of what you listed could be added in stages without the need for KDR and costs and disruption of having to live elsewhere… 1 13658 Hi I live in a 100yr old semi and my neighbour added an additional floor last yr and our architect has advised that we can knock down our semi and build a free-standing… 0 37681 10 15701 |
