If someone snitches on you or when your house is for sale, purchaser's inspector may pick it up fake compliance and you may have expensive problems. As pre purchase inspector I always ask to see approved building permit plans where available. The right thing is to do is to pay a proper price for what you want and then you have nothing to fear.
