Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Master bedroom layout 2Sep 28, 2021 2:19 pm It's really a personal preference I think. Do you like a bigger WIR or a proper retreat sitting area? Personally I would pick Option 3. At least if you decide not to have a sitting area later, your bedroom is still conventional and not having space wasted. If you have a 2m long bed, you still get about 2.9m space there for your sitting. For Option 1, I think you are only getting half benefits of a big WIR and a proper sitting. It's a compromise on both elements if it makes sense. For Option 2, that is really a grand sitting but you almost have no wardrobe space. If you like this option, I'd suggest that you could bring the bed bulk head forward because you have enough length in the room, and build a walk through style wardrobe behind the bulk head. I wasn't sure if I leave the awning windows in place will the depth on the sides of around 1.5m look weird. Re: Master bedroom layout 5Oct 01, 2021 10:44 am Option 3 100%. Large WIR are a massive luxury item and by the looks of it you will still have enough room for a seating area. This also gives you a blank wall opposite the bed in case you ever wanted to put a TV in there at some stage. Plus, I would recommend creating a study with an addition of a window on both the sides; gives you the flexibility of alternate the space as retreat or a workout zone (overlooking the park) as well. Opt 3 would be my choice as we are fans of big robes; in my new build design, the only WIR we have added was to the master bed. Flip side with WIR - we loose floor areas.. If you don't need it and want LOTS of space it could become part of the Master Suite and becomes a WIR and the doors to the bedroom can be moved down the hall further creating more space in the room.
