Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Oct 15, 2008 10:12 pm Has anyone done this themselves?? As in digging the slanted path for the pipes etc. If so, how do you go about doing this? Is it an easy task to do or should we leave it to the professionals??
If so, can anyone recommend one in adelaide, ta! Re: DIY Stormwater to curb??? 2Oct 16, 2008 1:50 am I am interested in this response too. We have to do our own after hand-over, but ours is going into a soakwell (thats been drawn on the plan anyway), we dont want to have to spend $$ getting someone else to do it, if it is just as easy for us to. Re: DIY Stormwater to curb??? 3Jan 01, 2009 3:01 pm Builder is asking for $3500 to do the stormwater. So, I think that I'll do it myself. IMO labour is a big component, so if you've got some elbow grease, you'll end up well ahead.
The engineer's report specifies 150mm cover, except in areas of vehicular traffic (300mm). 240mm trench can't be that difficult to dig right?? Couple of things I need to check out first though (maybe someone on this forum can advise): (a) as ground is almost level with street kerb (so pipes are generally 200mm below kerb), engineer's report specifies a sealed system (at least 500mm above ground level and below). On both sides of the house (which I intend to concrete), the engineer's report shows a spoon drain flowing into the middle and into the stormwater system. I'm a little confused - if system is sealed, how will the water run-off get into the system? (b) due to highly reactive soil, engineer's report specify flexible connections. I need to do my homework re how many flexible connections are required. (I think every branch requires one, but not sure at this stage). Chris Plumbers 'can be' plumbers, made all the worse by self certification which the building surveyor invariably accepts as proof of compliance! The good thing is that you know know. 3 4872 Grab a hose, insert it at the top of the inlet/down pipe and turn the water on and see where the water is escaping from. Then you'll know. 3 8489 in the stormwater pit or the drain? Those dont look like theyd fit in the drain. Separately, the pits do get stuff in them during the course of the build.
