Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jul 25, 2021 11:04 pm Hi, I'm currently building my first house, i chose Metricon and signed last year. To date i'm not impressed, about 6+ months behind. They have finally made it to site and made the cut, huge milestone. I've being tossing up whether or not to get a building inspector, my brother is a civil engineer and knows everything there is to a house and whilst he's not a builder he could probably build one. I was planning on getting him to look over the build when progress payments are due. The reason i'm thinking twice now is that i've read a lot on this forum site and other platforms about problems with Metricon (and other builders) but i'm also a believer that ppl only write something when they're angry/disappointed (like i am now). Also despite having many letters after his name, my brother isn't a builder nor look at houses all day every day like building inspectors. Does anyone have any thoughts? I've also read conflicting advise as to whether to only have some or all stages inspected? My budget has been blown out of the water as i'm going to be 10's of 1,000's in the hole due to the delays (their delayed damages amount is a joke and they wouldn't budge) but don't want to scrimp on a 500k+ build. I'm in the Brisbane metro area, any suggestions on good inspectors and any idea on $$? Thanks in advance. You have mandatory building inspections and privately engaged building inspections.
