Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 10, 2009 3:11 am Hi folks We've just launched a new deal for 1 kW PV solar systems for $749 fully installed with 25 year warranty. The website is http://www.solarpower.net.au Will try to answer as many questions here but you are more than welcome to ask any other questions you might have. Do you qualify for $8,000 rebate? If your household income is less than $100k, you are owner occupier and the house is your principal place of residence then yes - it is almost certain you will qualify...I say almost becaue some houses are just not suitable - eg not enough northern facing roof area. How much will it save off electricity bill? Savings depend on how much sunshine you get - so factors like where you live, surrounding buildings or trees etc will affect the power output of the unit. However, average savings for a 1 kW system are around the $450 a year mark. How much will this help the environment? A 1 kW PV solar system can reduce your carbon footprint by as much as 2,000 kg annually. Who is SolarPower? We are a joint venture between one of Australia's largest builders and a well know trans Tasman bathroom & kitchens wholesaler. There is a detailed FAQ here http://www.solarpower.net.au/faq/ We believe we have the best offer on the market - there are some companies that are slightly cheaper. However, they only offer a 10 year warranty. If something goes wrong with the system in the 11th year, the replacement cost would be upwards of $10,000 so a 25 year warranty is a worthwhile addition. The statement is illegal. Re: 1 kW PV Solar Power system - fully installed for $749 3Apr 10, 2009 9:46 am Hi Borg I am sorry you were upset by my post. There is nothing illegal in the previous post and we do believe we have the best offer in the market. Our warranty is backed by the stability of a publically listed company that has been around for almost 60 years and will still be here in 25 years to honour the warranty. We are more than happy for customers to compare our service and product offering with any other operators in the market and we are confident that on an "apples for apples" basis they will find we currently have the best deal. Re: 1 kW PV Solar Power system - fully installed for $749 4Apr 10, 2009 10:54 am Forgot to mention folks... The PV solar power system is completely free for customers who elect to buy both the PV solar power system together with a solar hot water system. Our goal is to install 1000 system before the current rebate ends on 30/6/09 - this will equate to about 2,000,000 kg of CO2 not being released into the atmosphere each year! Re: 1 kW PV Solar Power system - fully installed for $749 5Apr 10, 2009 11:37 am Without wanting to turn this into a debate about politics I find it highly disgusting that the current federal government who rode in partially on the back of climate change (even using PV providers as part of their promo ads..) have turned this scheme off simply because it was TOO successful. Re: 1 kW PV Solar Power system - fully installed for $749 6Apr 10, 2009 1:02 pm Zerosignal I couldn't agree with you more - the offer after June really isn't terribly encouraging - even though the means test will be removed. The same system that we can offer now from $749 will cost closer to $4000 after the new rebate is launched in July. This is not only a significant amount of money for existing home owners to come up with, but it also means that the unit will take closer to 10 years to pay for itself. I am looking at starting a petition (probably on facebook because they have the software and exposure to get lots of signatures) but my feeling is the govt needs to do much better than this - a solar power system on the roof of every suitable house in Australia would have a massive impact on the country's carbon footprint. Expecting individuals to make a 10 year investment before they show a return is akin to turning the rebate off entirely - and how sad is that given the potential benefit. Re: 1 kW PV Solar Power system - fully installed for $749 8Apr 10, 2009 5:49 pm Hi Darry i wasnt upset about it,its just that having worked in sales you cant stats that all cheaper installs only have 10 year warrently, as that isnt always going to be the case. Anyway is 749 including meter swap out??? Re: 1 kW PV Solar Power system - fully installed for $749 9Apr 10, 2009 6:44 pm reneegogh NSW will be introducing a feed in tariff and the most recent announcement says it should be some time this year - but it is governement - so your guess as to exactly when would be as good as mine. Re: 1 kW PV Solar Power system - fully installed for $749 10Apr 10, 2009 10:03 pm The Government rebate ends on 9th June 2009. Does this mean that we have until then to apply or does the installation have to be completed by that date ? We are building a new home that won't be completed until October 2009. Re: 1 kW PV Solar Power system - fully installed for $749 11Apr 10, 2009 10:29 pm Hi MYR My understanding is that the rebate offer ends on 30 June. Pre-approval conditions state that you have up to 9 months to have the system installed and this time limit can be extended upon application where extenuating circumstances exist. Given that you are looking to install in October, you should have no probelms. You can view details of the offer and terms here http://www.environment.gov.au/settlements/renewable/pv/index.html Re: 1 kW PV Solar Power system - fully installed for $749 12Apr 13, 2009 12:17 am Can the system be added to? Say add another 1-2kw down the track? Like what are the limitations of this system compared to the others? Our Blog! http://cityplantation.blogspot.com | Building the Havana 485 with Plantation Homes (Henley) Re: 1 kW PV Solar Power system - fully installed for $749 13Apr 13, 2009 5:22 am Hi Gester Yes, the system can be added to. The output of the system is basically a function of how many panels are on your roof collecting light. The current rebate only really makes a 1 kW system practical at the moment - unfortunately the technology is still very expensive and adding another kW to your system is going to add the best part of $8,000 to the price tag. Having said this, after June, the rabate is structured differently - my understanding is that the rebate will be based on Renewable Energy Credits (RECs) and provide home owners with assistance for systems up to an output of 1.5 kW. There is some official info about the Renewable Energy Target (RET) at Wayne Swan's website here http://www.treasurer.gov.au/DisplayDocs.aspx?doc=pressreleases/2008/143.htm&pageID=003&min=wms&Year=& My understanding of this is that you should qualify for RECs on 0.5 kW of your extension to your solar system which based on a pro-rata calculation should equate to $2500. Hope this is helpful. Re: 1 kW PV Solar Power system - fully installed for $749 14Apr 13, 2009 8:39 am wouldn't an extensive roll out of PV solar systems to all households be a better investment than $900 free money. now that would be showing some green credentials ’’Quondo Omni Flunkus Mortati ’’ If the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy. One of the many backyard experts - mates - are suggesting that "4KW is needed " I know it varies, however I would be interested in your feedback as I would like to get solar power. * Are we there yet ? Maybe they should use all the proceeds from the 'carbon tax' to install PV panels on everyone rooftop? Sure beats free insulation! Its all smoke and mirrors by trying to appear to be doing something they arn't. Re: 1 kW PV Solar Power system - fully installed for $749 17Apr 13, 2009 9:38 am Hi Serge Living in a global economy, I understand the Govt's logic with the stimulus package - it is about stimulating the global economy, not just our own...but this will only work if other Govts around the world do the same thing. Having said that, I do believe there is a component of vote buying in the handout - because you are right, spending the money on something like solar would represent infrastructure improvements while at the same time going a long way to help reduce Australia's CO2 emmissions. My concern with the way the rebate is being revised is that the government is asking australians to make a 10 year investment in solar power out of their own pockets. Peter Garrett says that Australians want to be part of environmentally friendly initiatives but I think the rebate after June will cause the same problem that Kyoto did - I'm not going to do it unless they do it. One could of course argue that I have a vested interest in seeing a better rebate offer and naturally as a commercial business we expect to make a profit but based on the price people are able to have systems installed for under our offer, I think it is clear that profit was not our main motive for getting involved. Re: 1 kW PV Solar Power system - fully installed for $749 18Apr 13, 2009 9:47 am Hi Steven Our site has a carbon footprint and electricity cost calculator here - http://www.solarpower.net.au/carbon-calculators/footprint-calculator.htm The cost calculations are based on Qld's electricity tariff but it should still give you a reasonable estimate of your own costs. I used the calculator to check my own bill and it was within a couple of dollars. I do have plans to revise this and allow people to select their state but things have been so busy since we launched that I haven't had time to put my geek programming hat back on. Re: 1 kW PV Solar Power system - fully installed for $749 19Apr 13, 2009 9:53 am Thanks DarylC, as I think AGL are a pack of .... intereting chaps.. $749 is a fantastic incentive, especially with all the gadgets going into the new home ! - we have just finished council approvals and are going to tender the construction, so your tip on applying now is an excellent one !! thanks again, Steve * Are we there yet ?
