Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jul 01, 2021 10:21 am I'm new to all this, and I'm sure this topic has been done to death, but I've had a much larger than expected quote for engineering (double). Is this something where you can look at other quotes, or is it pretty much fixed between all firms? Obviously I want the house to be safe and stable, so don't want to scrimp, but also don't want to just blindly pay if I don't need to. Many thanks Re: Engineering costs 2Jul 01, 2021 10:27 am if its the builders quote and you've already signed a contract, you're probably stuck. If you've not signed anything, you are free to get as many quotes and opinions as you want. Dark matter scientist, can breathe underwater, mind reader and can freeze matter just by willing it. Is this something where you can look at other quotes, or is it pretty much fixed between all firms? Hey Welcome to the forum. maybe some insight into how you got this larger than expected engineering quote is warranted.ie, new build, renovation, House design change variation ,etc. Generally engineering is the least expensive when compared to the other margins added.eg Builders margin 20% of the contract Architects margin 10% of the contract price Salesman margin 3-5% of the contract price Engineers margin 1% of the contract price cejones Obviously I want the house to be safe and stable, so don't want to scrimp, but also don't want to just blindly pay if I don't need to. Many thanks Battlers and Punters just pay what the builders and architects tell them to pay On Difficult Designs and Builds you should always query the engineering with the engineers up front or cop the $ticker $hock at contract signing where you don't have access to the Architects & Builders engineers Cheers Chris Designer,Engineer (Civil,Const & Envir),Builder,Concrete & Masonry Contract.Struct Repairs Assuming you've modelled the TB8, TB10, TB12, TB2 & J1 joists/LVLs there, it appears as per drawing to me.
