Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Aug 03, 2021 1:28 pm Building in Perth. Where do I locate the alfresco to maximise winter sun but minimise summer sun? Leave it where it is? Or move to master side? If moved to master, do I put a highlight window on the northern wall? What role can a deciduous planted pergola play? I need advice from someone experienced ππ»π€πΌπ€πΌ Please note that some changes have been made to this plan including moving bed 2 highlight window to southern wall. I plan to increase eaves on the south western side of the house and use planting along all sides too. The rear of my block runs along an easement with retained bush land and trees. Advice graciously accepted. Iβve posted this elsewhere too. Plenty of sunlight into your kitchen and living. Harsh summer sunlight will be behind the house in the afternoon. If you are concerned about your alfresco, I don't know if there is much else you could do. If you locate it next to master bed, you will need to change the masterbed window which will be looking at a fence. One thing you could do is to have no roof over that alfresco area. It will be more like a courtyard outside your kitchen/living. For entertaining, you could install that open/shut pergola thing later. A permanent roof will definitely block some light into the kitchen. I absolutely love your ideas! In an ideal world, I would absolutely love this layout. Unfortunately, I have very specific needs which are the primary driver of my current plan. Iβm an electric wheelchair user and for the most part, almost entirely bedbound. This layout lets me be connected to my kids and visitors whilst being stuck in my bed. I know itβs unusual lol. Iβm also highly dependent on care so that factors in too. Iβm really happy with your feedback regarding position of the alfresco and I think the pergola is the way to go. I feel much better about it now. Thanks so much gor taking the time, you have some fabulous skills! oklouise Yaznco Building in Perth.
