Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 30, 2021 3:07 pm Hi folks, TLDR: What are the drawbacks of constructing external walls with Cladding/Lightweight instead of bricks? Would extra wall-batts help with insulation/energy efficiency/durability? I am considering building my first house as the established market in Brisbane is gone crazy. Pictures of lot & design: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Cannot use brickwork on the external walls on the right hand side of the house due to setback requirements being a corner block. Has to be replaced with Cemintel SimpleLine lightweight cladding. The left hand side is always those lightweight materials. If I want brick on the right hand side, I was suggested to take 5cm off each of those 2 red lines in the picture (total 10cm) - consequences - 1) No Bathtub in common bathroom 2) 600mm cooktop instead of 900mm cooktop. I wasn't told about this when signing the quote and they discovered during design phase. Land is not subdivided/registered yet and they may have more conditions eg. due to the cut out on the front the house may need to be pushed back further decreasing backyard (currently 6.2m). This is the only 4 bedroom design they have on a 10m frontage block. In such a dilemma now. Thoughts? Re: HELP! URGENT! Brick Vs Cladding/Lightweight 2May 30, 2021 4:46 pm I personally don't like the looks when the whole house is made of it. Reminds me of old fibro shacks too much. We have certain small sections made of it in our current house where they couldn't put bricks for various reasons. Other than builder having to come out and reseal couple of edges after we had particularly intense sideway rain - didn't really have any issues with those sections. The don't appear any more noisy or hotter than the rooms with walls made of brick. Re: HELP! URGENT! Brick Vs Cladding/Lightweight 5May 31, 2021 9:00 am Berek Choose another cladding profile. Plenty of nice ones available. Can you please recommend some nice ones? Re: HELP! URGENT! All other lots are sold out so I will have to give up the whole thing. I see lots of review on the Barestone clad but no SimpleLine. Re: HELP! URGENT! Re: HELP! URGENT! Brick Vs Cladding/Lightweight 10Jun 07, 2021 3:13 pm A judicious mix of brick and cement fibre planks for the front facade would be attractive. Use something like JH Newport planks on the side. You could also use bricks up to floor level, if the concrete slab overlaps the brickwork. Thank you @. Tried to play with the facade models but the exact colour is not matching up. 2 3269 Render your bathroom walls, two opinions versus the one, makes you wonder. 3 6062 thanks Chippy, i hope they have applied sealer but i am doubt to be honest, so i am gonna do this job after handover. 8 16284 |
